I just installed Over-Drive Media Console on my Dell 700m laptop with Windows XP Home so that I can download mp3 audio books from my local library. After installing, I tried to download a test mp3 file and got this error message:

"Error 0xC00D2712: License storage is not working. Contact Microsoft product support"

I came up with no matches on this site when searching for previous posts. Anyone able to enlighten me on this?

Thanks,
Terry

Hi tsekc, and welcome to TSF.

This could be a compatibility issue. Please click on the link below and post back with screenshots of the results.

Use Belarc Advisor it builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, including Microsoft Hotfixes, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.
NOTE: When providing this information please remove any licenses, listed in the results.

Hi Dave,

Here is the info I derived after running Belarc. I had to take multiple screenshots to get all of the info in. Let me see if I can get them posted here. Looks like I got 5 of the screenshots on this post; I'll add the other 5 on another post. Terry

Daft as it sounds your Microsoft updates may well make a big difference.

Hi Dave.

I updated all of my Windows files and then tried the test download on Over-Drive's website again. I get the same error message as before. T

Hi Terry,

Have a look at this page, i'm sure you've been here before but i'm fairly sure that you need the Media player security upgrade. Scroll down the page till you see it and follow the instructions.

http://www.overdrive.com/software/omc/download.asp

If this doesn't solve it then i'm not sure to be honest. I do know that a lot of other people have had the same problem and i can't see that anyone came up with a definitive answer.

It is obviously something to do with media usage rights and there will be a solution, if i could only find it.

Any reason why you need this particular program?

I think i would be looking for alternatives but i am still working on it for you.

I had this same error and it ended up being a proxy server error. I had a proxy server setting added by a Comcast service install that I never completed. It had changed my internet setting to use a Comcast proxy server which was incorrect. I just had to uncheck the use a proxyserver under Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings. It was also preventing me from connecting to Windows update.

I also have this error message when trying to receive the security upgrade. It happened after my computer changed Media player 10 to Media player 11. I will check the proxy setting to see if that helps.
