Electrical Storm, now "disk read error" is all I get...

This morning I woke up to:

A disk read error occurred.
Hit ctrl alt delete to restart.

Is my drive fried? I want to say no because I tried changing the boot to another drive and installing xp on that drive, and it gave me the option of both drives, though the installation said all went well but gave me a blank screen when it restarted itself at the end of it.

On startup when I hit f12 I got this message:
pxe-e61: Media Test failure, check cable

which I did. I opened everything up and made sure all was plugged in properly inside. Though it worked fine last night before the storm.

is there any saving me?

turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual
