I can't see any yellow exclamation marks. :4-dontkno

Uninstall the Sigmatel driver (and the Realtek driver if still there) in Control panel > Add or remove programs.

Download Driver Cleaner.

Download drivers no. 6 and 7 from this page at Intel.

Reboot to Safe mode. Install Driver Cleaner and use that to remove ALL Sigmatel (and Realtek) software.

Install the chipset INF utility (no. 7) from Intel.

Reboot to Safe mode again and install the Audio driver (no. 6).

Reboot (once again) to normal mode.

A few more questions:
You say the sound in videos is OK - what video format is that?
Music and Windows sounds are bad - i.e. MP3 and wave format?
What media player(s) are you using?
Have you installed Service pack 2 for XP? If not - do that.
Do you have a network card or a dial-up modem installed?

Check that the Windows Audio Service is enabled:
Click Start > Run. Type services.msc and click OK.
Double-click on Windows Audio in the right-hand column.
Set the Startup Type to Automatic and click the Start button under Service Status.
Reboot.

Are you using the Realtek card? When did you install it?

Yes, I think the card can be the part causing this (aca42 has to do with that card).
Your motherboard has onboard LAN - have you tried using that instead? You can download the onboard LAN driver from Intel (no. 4).

If you choose to use the onboard LAN you have to uninstall the drivers for the LAN card and remove the card. In addition to that you have to enable the onboard LAN in BIOS.
