Please help me. Please. Any Ideas would be so grateful !!

Im trying to fix my girlfriends computer which is a Compaq Presario 6000 and it was running a Windows XP and i have no clue what to do next.
First off just to let you all know, i know basics of a computer. My dad works for nasa but he does not know what i talk about when im on the phone and explaining parts to him and he lives 500 miles away from me, but the good thing is that when i used t live with him, he taught me the basics.

Anyways. I have a legit copy of Operating System CD; Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and a legit copy of HP Restore Plus.

I have reformatted my computer and 3 other computers before and I have gained experience to where reformatting a computer to me is a breeze. Until this day :sigh:

There are two parts to this, One with the OS still in the HD and one without the OS in the HD.

OS still in the HD
So first off, I put in the Operating System CD and i restarted the computer, i was guessing the BIOS had its settings to not boot from CD, but when i took a look, it's first step was to Boot from CD. So I tried again and no luck. I changed in the BIOS to make Step 1, 2, 3, and 4 to read CDROM.

This is where it gets tricky... Ready ?!

unfortunately, it didnt read the Operating System disk and it would give me "DISK BOOT ERROR" but when i put in the HP Restore Plus disk and press enter, it read it. So i fallowed the steps and let the system configuration settings get through and unfortunately when it got to the part where it was supposed to restore, it gave me an error, i have forgotten what it EXACTLY said, but a little summry in my head says "Cannot restore system because this does not support the system you have."

So i was thinking in my head, it reads the disk. WOHOO. I restarted the computer, put in the Operating System CD and ... no luck. Gave me the "DISK BOOT ERROR. PLEASE INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER". At this point i restarted the computer atleast 3-5 times and no luck, gives me the ""DISK BOOT ERROR. PLEASE INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER".

I stuck the HP Restore Plus CD and no luck either, still giving me the ""DISK BOOT ERROR. PLEASE INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER". Restarted the computer 2 more times with HP Restore Plus CD and on my third try, it read the disk. So i tried the Operating System Disk. No luck, still the ""DISK BOOT ERROR. PLEASE INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER. :sigh: I was about to give up, until suddenly, I restarted the computer once more and I stuck the Operating System Disk in and FINALLY got to the part that said "Press anything to continue..." I got so excited. I got to the point where I deleted the Partition in C and i got to select the maximum size and make a new partition. Everything was going swell until one hour later after it formatted the C Partition, it gave me an error that said "Unable to Format and make new partitions" I didnt read all the way but i pressed enter and i guess it retried. Then a new error came up that said "Please insert disk that says Operating System CD then press enter" and i was like ummmm... its in there, so i opened the CD Drive and closed it again and pressed enter, but the error message wasnt going away. So i just restarted the computer so i can start over.

now .....

OS is not in the HD anymore

the furthest i get is, "DISK BOOT ERROR" and i have tried everything
  • Reset the BIOS
  • Unplug all the SATA cables and replug
  • Copied a fresh copy of Operating System CD
  • Restarted over and over again

the Funny thing is, when i reboot the computer with the HP Restore Plus IN THE CD DRIVE, it gives me a DISK BOOT ERROR, but when i open the tray and close it again, then it reads it. But it only reads the HP Restore Plus CD not the Operating System CD...

:sigh: ;'[

Please help me. Please. Any Ideas would be so grateful !!
Thank you in Advance:smile:
