Hello, Since yesterday, my computer has had some pretty bad choppyness in both audio and video on some programs.. most games, some flash programs, and sometimes foobar2000.

before it started, my computer restarted while i was in the middle of playing Beat Hazard, it started back up no problem, but i was worried, so i ran a virus scan with avast, and ran a check disk, nothing was found.

Today it did it again, while i was web browsing, this time i just kept restarting, so i left it alone for a while, now its working again, but i'm really worried..

I don't really have any idea why its doing this, the only thing i've changed recently is a new video card, but that was a couple of months ago, and it's just started...

Anyone have an idea of what's going on?

Bit of a long shot but try the following

For to start >> run >> type “devmgmt.msc” >> (in the new window) locate and expand “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers” >> double click on all “Primary IDE channels” and “secondary IDE channels” >> check in “Advanced settings” make sure all “Transfer modes” are set to “DMA if available” >> restart your machine and get back to me.

If this doesn’t work, uninstall the controllers (primary and secondary) by right clicking on them and selecting uninstall. And then restart (they will re-install on start up)ONLY DO THIS IF THEY RESET BACK TO “PIO” AFTER RE-BOOT

What is the CPU usage and File packet usage (memory usage) when this happens?

If there is high CPU usage or Memory it could be malware. if so try downloading malwarebytes and running a scan.

is the whole pc running slow or is it just the aforementioned application/audio/video

Edit:

and also did any of the channels have "DMA if available" selected, but then is current transfer mode it might say "pio" ?

if so uninstall the offending channel and re-start

My computer does seem fairly slower, as im typing this the words kind of lag a bit if i type too fast..

the choppyness seems to have stopped, atleast most of the time, but it's restarted again.

i've noticed that when it starts up there's a 'add new hardware' window, it says that the hardware is unknown, so im not sure what it is..

about the cpu usage, i haven't checked task manager when its about to restart, everything seems to slow down/freeze, so it probably is maxing out.

i will run malwarebytes and edit this when its finished.
