Can't Drag and Drop Files on XP Desktop

Folks -

Used an registry cleaner on my Dell XP SP2 desktop since it performs very poorly despite spyware cleaning, disk defrag etc.

After running the program, I am not able to drag and drop destop icons. I can highlight them and open, but not move them. Also, the defrag utility will boot to the UI, but not actually run.

Tried resetting to a previous system restore point via XP - no help.

Interestingly, when I type regedit in the Start > Run command line the prompt screen will flash briefly then disappear. Can't see the registry file.

Hate to go through the hassle of wiping the disk, but this is our family PC and it has become a real dog.

Have a 500G IP drive with backups so I have not lost anything.

Hello, R1 Pilot... I too just joined this forum it seems like a good one... anyways i was just wondering are you trying to drag and drop the icons into folders or just move them around on your desktop?
