Question can't activate "active desktop"(RESOLVED)

Hello,

I have an HP notebook running windows xp home. I was trying to activate "active desktop", but the option does not exist when I right click on the desktop. I tried to go to control panel--display--desktop--customize desktop, but then there is only a "general" tab and the instructions say there should also be a "web" tab. What could it be?

thanks

Hi ardg, and welcome to TSF

Do you have a 64bit version of XP?

We can try some registry tweaks to get you 'Web' Tab back, if you're comfortable with trying that.

no 64bit. let's try registry tweaks!

I will back it up and make a restore point first.

problem solved!

after you suggested to play with the registry, I searched in google for the web tab and registry, and found this:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
here I saved the "restore all display tabs" as a .reg file, imported it, and the web tab is back!!
thanks a lot!

a better solution

oops, after restarting my computer with the registry change, my internet connection was gone...
I restored the system and found a less invasive solution here:

Google is your friend.

Glad my suggested course of action helped. Take Care
