I guess the the error log for Nero doesn't tell much about what is wrong ?

I used Home Deport instead of Memorex cds seems to work o.k.
Memorex disks seems to cause me errors more often then other brand of disk.

I did a simulation mode first before burning the audio cd using Nero.

Maybe I will have to use different computer with different burner just to use Memorex, if it only works specifically for that computer.

Thanks.

I don't really know how to read the report. The right person might be able to see exactly what is wrong. I agree, the Memorex is trash media. You might try using another program to burn the CD's, just to see if it's Nero. I have found that some programs do better than others. Nero is usually my "best", but that might vary from computer to computer. Yours might not like Nero for some reason.

The Error Log states
KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR
This means the LiteOn DVDRW drive doesn't like your Memorex blanks.
Try any other name brand blanks, like Sony, Phillips, TDK etc not Memorex
Be sure they are CD-R's and not CD-RW's which are required to be formatted
before use.

Would doing a Nero simulation on media brands which I think are error prone, prevent me from making coasters on my LiteOn DVDRW so I can use the disks in another burner if not compatible ?

Thanks.

If you flash with the Lite -on firmware would make other media brands less
acceptable as media or it shouldn't make a difference on my computer?
I have a Gateway 4016 with Lite-On DVDRWS SHW-1635S burner.

And can you undo the firmware once it is installed, should things work out badly ?
Do you have to do a system restore to a date before you update the firmware to put things back as before/original ?

Thanks.

#12 ·
Can't answer your questions but tbh you are putting a lot of effort into trying to make a $30 optical drive do it's basic function, when a $40.00 optical drive is just about state-of-the-art (in terms of speed, reliablity, etc...).

It's not "advice", but rather something to keep in mind. How valuable is your time?

#13 ·
Flashing the Firmware is a permanent flash of the DVDRW Hardware. It cannot be reversed. Firmware is released by the hardware manufacturer (Lite-On) to accept more kinds of blank Media and fix previous problems since the DVD drives release. It won't affect the types of media it runs now. Doing a System Restore will do nothing to reverse it since it is not a software program. There is no guarantee after flashing the firmware that it will read your Memorex CD-R blanks. but it might. You could just go buy another brand of blank and make it easy on yourself.
