BSOD on startup: 0x0000007F

I recently built a new gaming computer. Popped in my XP boot disk (included SP2), and everything loaded up fine. Then, right when it starts up Windows, it crashes. It's a standard BSOD. The line at the bottom reads:

STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Googled that code and nothing explanatory came up. If anyone can interpret it, I'd like to know what steps I can take to solve the problem.

EDIT
: Here are my new specs if they are helpful:

Intel Dual Core 2 Quad Q6600
GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R Motherboard
8GB GSkill DDR2 SDRAM
MSI nVidia GTX260 OC video card
Western Digital SATA 3.0GB/s 1TB HDD
Corsair 750W PSU
Samsung CD-R optical drive

The error does not include (UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP).

Also, I was looking for something a little more definitive than "hardware or software problems", which seems a bit redundant (my problem is caused by... a problem?).

Hello Figgis,

Hello

What version of Win Xp are you installing?

Is it 32-bit or 64-bit as the maximum amount of RAM that a 32-bit

version will support is 4GB.

Not sure if this is causing your problem but try booting the system with different memory

modules. Could be faulty RAM.

Have you eliminated the common causes of this error discussed in that MS link I posted earlier? Have you run a diagnostic on your memory? Have you tried booting after removing all non-essential parts from the computer such as optical drives?
