Re: Bsod

How much virtual memory and RAM does your hard drive have? And do you have a virus scanner like Kaspersky or AVG?

Re: Bsod

Try running AVG. Also, how much virtual memory to you have? To check, go to Start Menu, click My Computer, right click the C drive (or whatever your local drive may be, then click Properties and tell me how much Used space and Free space you have in GBs.

Re: Bsod

Log is clean.

And that file is related to Dlink wireless driver.

Not my area so I'll let others continue.

Re: Bsod

Try installing the latest driver for the wireless router. Since it is throwing the error, this might fix it.

Re: Bsod

Running XP-Pro. Installed a D-Link DWL-520g wireless card (router is D-Link DI-624) about a week ago and began having same problem (BSOD reporting A3AB.SYS as culprit which is the D-Link driver file).

I've done much research in the past couple of days via web search and discovered that this is a well documented problem with the D-Link drivers dating back for about 3 years and the latest drivers D-Link supplies either in the box or via web support DO NOT resolve the problem.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS!

There are a couple of solutions which work around the problem but I stumbled into something that may be better so I'll state that first and then state the older proven solution.

1. Go to www.microsoft.com and seach for "Catalog". Select the search result which will take you to their beta "Catalog" homepage download site. Then search there for "d-link dwl-g520 xp" and download the driver V5.3.0.46 dated 5/28/2007.

Since I installed that driver a few days ago, no BSOD yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If the failure returns I'll try a solution suggested by other forum posts that seems to stop the BSOD which is:

2. Enter http://192.168.0.1 which takes you to the DI-624 router configuration settings page and disable the Turbo mode by selecting "Super G without Turbo" in the drop-down box. This will drop your network speed down to 54kbs from 108kbs.

3. There are a couple of other solutions posted requiring drivers provided by the wireless card chipset provider or from a 3rd party, but I don't plan to go that route except as a last resort.

The already proven method in item 2 above drops the network speed down significantly. Before finding that solution, the new driver from Microsoft had already been downloaded and installed, therefore I'm going to give the new driver a little more time. If the system crashes again, then the next step will be to disable the turbo mode. In a week or so I'll post again with an update.

Re: Bsod

Hi and welcome roswell998,
Thank you for the info. Wish it didn't slow the speed down, but if it works until a better solution can be found its worth dealing with!

Just to clarify...........I have not disabled the turbo mode yet, so the speed is still 108mbs. The driver from Microsoft is dated only about 6 weeks ago and the disable Turbo mode has been a solution for a year or so.

Bottom line............If the new driver solves the problem the speed won't be reduced!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll keep you guys posted on the result.

Thumbs Up Re: Bsod

UPDATE.......

It appears that the new drivers available from the Microsoft website solve the BSOD crashing problem of the D-Link DWL-G530(b) wireless adapter running under Windows XP Pro SP2 when running full speed in "Super G with Dynamic Turbo" mode.

It has been over a week since the new drivers were downloaded from the Microsoft Catalog beta website and installed. So far so good since there have been no BSOD crashes.

The Microsoft beta Catalog website with the D-Link driver is:

http://test.catalog.update.microsoft...0dwl-g520%20xp

and the driver I downloaded is:

Version 5.3.0.46 dated 5/28/2007

If there are any additional developments related to the stability of this driver I will post them and it will be appreciated if others that use these drivers post their experiences.

Good luck!!!

Grin Re: Bsod

I don’t know if anyone is still interested in this product/problem, but the new driver downloaded from Microsoft as described above has worked without problem now for approximately 1 month.

I’d recommend that if you are in a rush to patch the problem, turn off the turbo mode since that is an instant fix. Then later download and install the updated driver from Microsoft as a permanent fix and turn the turbo mode back on.
