Browser crash during large file downloads
I recently developed a problem with large file downloads. Whenever I try to download a file larger then, let's say 300mb, my web browser restarts itself, when the total reaches about 80 %. I suspect it's some sort of a memory problem, but not really sure what kind. During the download more and more RAM is being used. I suspect everything started when I got the latest version of Java.
Any form of help is very welcome

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
What browser are you using? (ex) IE, Firefox, Chrome etc? What Version? (ex) IE8, FF7 etc. I What site are you downloading files from? How much Free Hard Drive space do you have? Have you tried uninstalling Java, and reinstalling it. Have you tried a System Restore to a time before this happened?

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
It doesn't matter what browser I use, the crash happens with Opera 11.51, IE8 and Avant. Files are being downloaded from Fileserve, Filesonic, Rapidshare and other similar sites. Hard drive space is not a problem, I have more that enough. I already reinstalled Java, maybe I could try with an older version. System restore could take me back a few weeks, that's my last resort :)
Seems to me like there is a problem with writing temporary files on hard drive ...

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
Download CCleaner, Analyze the drive and do a Cleanup which will safely remove Temp files. This would free up your temp folder if there is a size limitation.

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
I'm already using CCleaner, but it doesn't help with my problem. Something else is preventing files to be downloaded in large amount. I have tried with another version of Java - it helped once, then it was back to the same old problem. Then I tried TCP optimizer - same story. Google is of no help :) because I found solutions from buffer size, StaticFileHandler to TCP/IP management. But I'm sure somewhere here lies the problem and the right solution.

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
Sorry for double posting. Just a small update. The files download are stopped when the numbers reach 345657427 bytes (amount of download). What part of the computer decides how much can I download from the Internet ?

Re: Browser crash during large file downloads
It could be a bad checksum on the files you are downloading. Try another download from another site around the same MB or bigger.
