I am looking for a guide to Windows XP. I have the Home Edition. The one I am thinking of is Windows XP Inside Out. Would this be a good reference. I have heard it focuses more on XP Pro. Are there any other good reference guides?
I got Windows XP Inside Out, and it's certainly comprehensive. While some parts are slanted to XP-Pro, most of it also applies to XP-Home. As Chevy mentioned, it's really dependent on your experience level, XP Inside Out is more of a reference book than a "how to" book. One plus is it comes with a CD that has a searchable copy of the book, as well as several other complete eBooks.
Of course, I got it free from the MVP program, I wouldn't have spent $60 for it!
I would rate myself as an intermediate user. I am really looking for something that has a good bit of detail, explains the nuts and bolts of windows, rather than a how-to book, as I am familiar with the basics.
You might look at windows internals by mark Russinovich. He's one of the people behind Sysinternals (free windows diagnostic utilities).
