Awhile ago I applied a windows theme via AlienGUIse. I've used it for awhile but now I wanted to revert back to the original Windows XP "blue window" theme. (Where all the windows are blue, etc).
I go to start AlienGUIse and it just pops up a dialog box with "???" in it. I go to uninstall and it just erased my desktop and that's it. It's not in my Add/Remove programs list or any other uninstaller list. I tried applying Windows Default settings from right clicking on the desktop and toolbar but nothing fixed it.
Before I go deleting registry entries for AlienGUIse, does anyone have any suggestions?
Backup your files and re-install windows? Only if it's a very severe need though. There are probably other programs that could apply Windows themes, just try using a different program.
Have you tried right clicking on your desktop and going to properties, which will bring up the display window and changing the theme back to Windows xp theme?
Yep. No matter what I set it to, mozilla browser, the bottom task bar, and other windows stay the same alienware theme. Everything else changes (windows classic will change the simplicity of icons, etc).
It would be sensible to try and completely uninstall alienguise using a program like Windows Install clean up.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 Then reinstall alienguise and select the option to revert the theme to its original state.
I know this is an old thread, but try this if this happens to any of you:
Try creating a new user profile. Then when you log into your new profile, go to Document and Settings and then click on the corrupt user profile folder and copy all the important documents over to the new profile.
My buddy installed all these themes and totally screwed up his desktop. All he could view was his wallpaper. explorer wouldn't run. You had to ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and then new task to run/open and program.
So just a note for next time: ***Always make a SYSTEM RESTORE POINT before trying to mod important windows files.*** I ran into this same problem.
