My laptop needed a reformat so I inserted the disc and began the reformat like always. After the drive was formatted and then rebooted windows prompted me with a message "disk read error" ctrl+alt+delete to restart. I also tried this with 2 other OS discs i had for other computers. I checked making sure it was booting from hdd rather than the cd and still same error occurred. What would cause this error? Thanks in advance for your help.
yes the format was with the xp home install disc. So i inserted the disc booted from it, got to the blue screen, deleted partition, created new, and began formatting the partition, upon completion the computer rebooted and as soon as it reboots it displays "disc read error" where it should continue with the windows installation.
The install disk set you are using is it the correct set for this computer?
What make is the hard drive?
