Is it recommended to remove or uninstall these programs? If I do so will it help to free up memory and create more space? Also there is a program on the computer called CC cleaner. Is it cool to use it to perform sweeps, clean out cookies, and uninstall programs? Finally, how do I know which cookies to keep and which to delete, is it okay to delete all of them?

Has been running fine for almost 2 years but today the MS SQL Server instance that is needed for Omnicast to interface with the various databases it creates and maintains just stopped running... and will not restart. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting? I may end up having to call Genetec but I'd rather not since we are past our first year and renewing a support contract is $$$.

The user folders have been renamed to .old to differentiate them from current user profiles and are therefore not in use.
I have tried taking ownership of the folder and it's sub-directories with no change in result.
OS is Windows XP, SP3
Can anyone offer a solution to how I can get rid of these folders as some are taking up in excess of 40GB!

Hi, I'm new (I think) to the forum or, at least, faven't been here for a long time. Apols if this is in the wrong bit.

I got hit with a TDSS virus which I've got rid of with the aid of a Kaspersky CD and checked with an AVG CD.

First problem was that I could not access the internet. Couldn't get the DHCP started and Windows Firewall/ICS had problems etc.

Also I had reports of a "dead socket".

Eventually, having read something, I copied an AFD registry entry from my work PC into my home PC registry and that started all the above services OK.

Then I got a problem with the 1394 Networks adaptor (the local adaptor works fine) but when I try the "repair option" I get a message about TCP/IP not working.

I've tried copying the TCP/IP backup sys files over the 'proper files' bt nothing seems to work. I have also downloaded some TCP/IP repair progs but they have had no effect.

I know I have internet access because I can get n the net from the Kaspersky disk + I can still WIFI access from my iTouch.

Also, in the NETWORK ADAPTORS bit I can see my internet connection but I can't connect.

I'm now at a loss on what to next (short of a format and fresh install) and reading tech data and instructions on an iTouch is v/hard on the eyes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tks.

So the problem I have is that almost all the workstations on our network are connected and working on the network.

The problem comes that when trying to ping other machines on the network it pops up as 'request timed out' even though I know they are on the network and authenticated. I have checked the firewall settings and ICMP echo request are allowed.

Also when trying to map to one of these machines it comes up as if it was not on the network.
I am at a lose and connot find anything useful on google, does anyone have any thoughts?

Hello:

I created a second Computer Administrator User Account, and I've been using that almost exclusively for months.

The original User Account is no longer needed. I've copied the files/folders I needed on to a USB flash drive.

How safe is it to delete that original Computer Administrator User Account? It is taking up much disk space.

My concern is that since it was the original User Account, one can do things with it which cant be done in the User Account created later even though that too is a Computer Administrator account.

Might there be any risks at all in deleting that account?

Thanks in advance:

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum. I've been having some serious problems lately. (In case it gets moved, my OS is Windows XP home.) The problem is some programs, programs that I've used every day for over a month with no problems, will start to load, and then stop loading. A look at my task manager shows that the memory usage and CPU usage don't budge at all, sometimes stopping as early as about 70kb.

I ran a scan with AVG and Malwarebytes, both scans turned up clean. Another look at my task manager shows one process, MsMpEng.exe, is sometimes using up large amounts of memory and CPU. This isn't consistent, however.

Another suspect program is the Zonealarm firewall, since my problems seem to have started after installing the latest version. Has anyone else had problems with this one?

As an example, one of the programs that started giving me trouble is Pidgin messenger. When I open it, it opens up a blank window, and then memory and CPU usage stops, and I have to "end task" it. I tried uninstalling, re-downloading, and then re-installing the program, opened it, same result.

Any ideas?

Hi there!

First i want to just say i dont know my way around a computer very well. But ive spent about 5 hours trying to fix this and im going to give you a list of all the issues ive run into so far so here i go...
The problem all started when i down graded from windows 7 to XP
There seems to be something wrong with my video card drivers. I cannot play any of the games i downloaded they crash every time i try and load them up.
I'm running XP on my Compaq Presario (SR2172NX). It originally came with vista. I downgraded because this computer is pretty obsolete but its what Ive got but anyways. First things first i keep trying to update the software to service pack three it give me an error and im stuck at service pack two. I dont know why...the errors not specific about anything it just says failed to update. Second i cannot find my video card anywhere Ive look all over for i cant find it in the specifications or anything. looked in the video setup MY card is called VGASave everything about it is unknown it says. Other than that I can give some error reports from Minecraft.
(ill post it at the bottom)
I used to have Catalyst control centre someone installed for me...
I did not instal the drivers for my com by myself. I did not downgrade to xp by myself. I had someone do it for me and before i go to them with more of my computer problems i want to ask you guys. Im sure there will be many questions and i will answer them swiftly. Thanks for reading i hope you can help!

(Minecraft error report i get on start up of program)
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.
When I open my computer, the drive icons will partially display and the screen will turn black or sometimes white. Icons on the desktop and task bar disappear until the mouse is moved over them. Some icons are missing in the Start Menu. All icons are missing in Control Panel. Sometimes context menus are blacked out until the mouse is moved over the entries. Sometimes the side bar in My Computer is missing. I ran a virus scan and nothing was detected and I haven't had any viruses detected recently. I haven't run any tweak programs. I'm assuming that parts of the registry are corrupt. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
