Sony Vaio Win7 install locked HDD

Hi, I have a Vaio installed with XP home and recently my brother updated it from XPh to win7 Ultimate.

- he failed to make a backup of my files
- he failed to read the message prompts properly during installation hence he may have inadvertently left something out.
- the icon for my main hdd shows a red symbol which I can't determine and upon checking it's properties it shows that the user can't be shown and no other thing can be done to change the user.
- i now have to different users in my laptop and the "new" user can't access any program from my main drive.
- i've tried editing thru regedit but to no avail.
- i've tried using my administrator password but it won't accept it.
- i'm all out of options except to either reinstall XP home which I am not sure of if I can do so after the win7 install or should I reformat my laptop?
- i also noticed that the win7 installation seems to come with an expiry denoting that it may be an evaluation copy. So on the link that says enter your windows key, I did try to input my key as what I see on the win sticker on my laptop but it won't accept it. Why?

Can anyone help me please. Thank you.

Nope, these are 2 separate issues on 2 different platforms and os's. This one is for my Vaio with a botched win 7 installation which locked out my hdd from access and it even won't take my windows key. Instead a window pops up saying UAC access is denied for whatever reason I do not know why.

The other post is for my desktop with problems about the XP Pro installed that won't continue on. Even if I tried using my installer cd it hangs at the point where it says "Windows is starting up".

Hope this clears things up. Thanks
