Macbook Pro stuck at loading screen

So, last night I found that my Macbook Pro (Late 2007, Santa Rosa) wouldn't output to the screen or an external. I thought I had the dreaded video chipset failure that Apple reported more common for my model. However, when I started up today, after leaving the battery out for awhile, the screen started working again... but Mac OS X did not. I'm currently stuck at the Apple logo with the spinning loading thing. I've left it on for over 3 hours and it still stayed there. The laptop gets hot and the fans spin up to ludicrous speed. When I hold option down at boot, it shows my Windows partition and my Mac OS X partition, but instead, it's called "EFI Boot." Did my Mac OS X get corrupted somehow? Should I backup the contents of my drive and reinstall Snow Leopard? I've tried resetting my PRAM, already.

Mactopia Endless Loop Signing Up

I'm a big fan of forums. Generally you can find someone out there in forum land that knows the answer to your question. I'm a recent convert to a MacBook Pro but still use Microsoft Office. Last Saturday I found out about a great forum on the Office for Mac website called Mactopia.com. So, I signed up. Mactopia said before I could ask a question, I'd have to click the validation email they sent me. They never sent one. There is a place for me to click when signed on to have the email resent. After I don't know how many times, they still haven't sent one. And it's not like I have some spam filter set or something.

The problem is that there is no mechanism to contact an administrator of the forum about this glitch. I've guessed at two or three possible email addresses, like support@ and admin@ and they all come back undelivered.

I can't ask questions or participate in the forum. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with who to contact about this?

copy paths from illustrator

I just upgraded to mac os 10.5 and am still using my adobe cs3. Since I upgraded, I haven't been able to copy paths from illustrator into indesign, they always come in as uneditable images, which is very frustrating! Can anyone help me?!

Mac Mini won't boot from Snow Leopard CD

Hi,

A few weeks ago I bought a slightly used Mac Mini on eBay. Everything was going well up until yesterday, when it froze up on me. I didn't think much of it, and tried starting it up again a few hours later, only to be greeted by the flashing question mark of death.

I did some reading online, and know that the flashing question mark basically means that there's either a problem with the OS installation or the hard drive itself. I borrowed a friend's Snow Leopard installation CD (mine didn't come with the CD) to try to boot from it, but it refuses to boot from the CD.

The only keyboard bootup control that does anything so far as I can tell is the alt key (using a windows keyboard), which results a long delay while booting, followed by a blank screen with a mouse cursor. Everything else just ends up with the flashing question mark. If I try to hold C to boot from the CD, it sits there for 3-4 minutes with the occassional CD whirring sound, then ejects the CD and goes to the flashing question mark.

I desperately need this mac to work by next week for a class I'm taking on iPhone app development, so I was gonna try to go the Apple genius bar tomorrow. Unfortunately, its a 4 hour round trip for me via public transport, so I would really appreciate it if someone here could help me out and tell me any possible reasons why I can't seem to boot from the CD.

connecting to a TV

Hi,

My son has a one year old Macbook, he would like to connect it to a LCD TV. The TV he has seen has got a connection for a PC, so does the MAcbook connect just the same as a PC? What sort of cable will be needed to connect to the TV? And are there any issues with the quality of the screen when connecting to a TV?

Hard Drives won't mount

Hello .... I normally have 3-10 hard drives connected (in series) to my Quad Core Intel Xeon tower, via the 2 Firewire sockets it has. Today for some reason none of the hard drives will mount. Unless 12 hard drives have all gone kaput all at the same time - the problem clearly originates with the tower.

The drives WILL connect through their USB sockets.

Looking at the System Profiler, under the Firewire tab - their is a message in red: Unable to list Firewire devices.

Obviously I have tried re-starting, connecting only one drive, swappign out Firewire cables - all the obvious stuff.

Help!

Flash Player won't install

My problem comes when I try to synch after adding to the tree in the app

First time that worked just fine but the second time it went haywire and I got the whirling beachball for ages. When I gave up and pressed cancel I found that half of the changes had taken and the other half had taken 40 times over so I now had 40 Albert Hayes for example

And then when I tried again it seemed as if the 'synch' button doesn't mean synch it means add all the changes made since last successful synch so I now have 41 Albert Hayes

any insights gratefully received

My iMac wont turn on...

I have an iMac G5 PowerPC, and it just started this weird thing a few weeks ago.

In the morning, after it's been off all night, I press the power button, but it doesn't turn on. I have to continuously keep pressing it until it finally makes that hissing start-up sound and chimes on. I'll usually unplug the computer a few times, but I'm not sure if that actually does anything. It can take anywhere from a minute to 3 minutes of pressing the power button before it finally starts up.

I hope someone can help me out with this, it's kind of a hassle, and it scares me a little, like maybe the computer has some sort of virus? I've tried holding down option, command, p, and r through 3 chimes, but it hasn't seemed to do anything.

Computer disables DVDs???

So yesterday I bought the movie UP and put it in my almost new Macbook Pro and it just went black then froze everything up. It kept doing this. I tried another DVD that I had previously watched on my computer and it worked. UP didn't work at home either. I thought maybe it was a faulty disk so we bought another at a different store today and the same thing happened. What is going on? I want to watch my movie!! Please help me!

ok i have a ibook g3 800mhz i just got it. 1st of all i was tring to download Mozilla Firefox because safari was a pain to work with. i tried getting on you tube but it kept kicking me off. then i try going to another site to see if i can play videos but none played. and later when i turned it on the computer for some reason it didnt load right. the screen it self was real small an nothing loaded on it. i couldnt access anything, not even the internet. im trying to see if i can reset it or something but i dont know what or where to go to do that (if it is even possible). its my first mac so yeah im alittle mac illiterate at this point. can any one help or give me some type of advice... please no smartass comments...thanx

Can't print from Windows side of Parallels program

We installed Parallels program to our iMac, and are unable to print from the Windows side of the parallels program. We were able to the first few days, but then it wouldn't print. We would unplug the printer from the iMac, plug it back in, and it would print. But now it doesn't print anymore (for months). We need to print from the Windows side of parallels. We have a HP Photosmart C7250 All-in-One printer. Please help! We are new to Mac, and have alot to learn about it.
