I was reading Sky news and its actually vrey interesting. I mean they are paying hackers to hack their systems and expose weakneses. the question that pops to mind tho is this: Where does ethics start and end? wot if you were a hcker, being paid to infiltrate and you dont report ALL the weakspots. Is there a wy to stop hackers from doing that? or are you left to the hackers mercy as soon as you hand the system over to him?
I feel that it was probably a mistake to pay for a course when I can study for the cert myself and likely do as well. I guess at the time I enrolled for A+ course I was not sure if I could do it myself and realize now that I could. So the next step after I complete this course would be to get my Network+. What would I need to study for this cert on my own? Thanks for the advice and info in advance.

Hello everyone! I just became a member today and I already like what I see on this forum. I have a question that I would like some advice on. I am 35 yrs old and want to change careers. I have been working in the social work field for the past 10 years. I am burnt out and absolutely hate my field of work at this time. I have always been fascinated by computers and enjoy learning about them. I decided this year to enter an A+ certification class in my local community college. My question is the following: Is it too late for me to change careers? Is IT a career which I can begin at my age? Also I have a family, wife and one son (13 months). Any advice or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Heres my situation - I am 21, have been working in a 2nd line support job for 18 months and have had no other IT related work.
I have recently passed my first mcp exam (70-271) and am now in need of some advice as to what to do now.
The date is the 9th Nov. As i currently stand i am set to be jobless in less than 2 months (xmas - harsh i know) as i am on a temporary contract.
I am just wondering as to what you think would be the best way to move onto a new job with just this experience.
I was considering finishing the MCDST by completing the 70-272 exam, but then have also had advice to do the 70-290 exam so it shows i have skills when working with networks.
I have no problem caining the self study, as that is how i learned for the 271 exam - out of office hours all evening and weekends.
My aim would be to keep in the 2nd line route as i think i am quite lucky that i landed this 2nd line job with no first line experience, and i would like to capitalise on that by not taking a step back into 1st line.

So, with all this in mind, what would you suggest? Any help would be much apprecieted right now!

I'm nearly 15 y/o, home educated and for the past 2-3 years I've been stuck on the internet tryna learn a load of stuff for some reason...I feel like a workaholic. But basically, I started by trying to get towards the near-impossible goal of learning C++. So as part of my unique learning technique, I decided to learn everything apart from C++... The Logic being that every coding language I learn, the next language should be a little easier. Kinda how I'd imagine that learning French would help to learn Spanish and then that would make Italian easier or something. It's been going well, but every time I attempt to start learning C++ again I hit a block. For one thing, C++ tutorials have started to become too simple at the beginning and then suddenly really hard after they get past the bits that I already know... And another thing is that I've always learnt best by experimentation, which with C++ isn't that easy since it needs to be perfect. I also need an idea of a program to try to make and I honestly can't think of what I'd wanna make with C++.

So I continued learning other things. My main hobby was recoding Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which has really helped in my understanding of how programs work and has lead me to learn basic hexadecimal. My interest in the game also lead me to create a website about it but I'm unsure whether posting the link here would go by the forum rules. I learnt HTML and spent months making a website in the really slow HTML-only way (I was new to it at the time) and along the way I made discoveries on the other internet languages... I also had a few people on the internet who guided me along the right path and now my website has been remade (for the 4th time) properly with HTML, CSS, PHP, bits of Javascript and SEO'd with the help of .htaccess amongst other things. Plus I have a IPB Forum Board installed and have picked up on how to use a MySQL database. So now I'm really into web design, too. I returned the favors to one of the people who had helped me by designing his website for him.

And along the way, like most people who use computers a lot have gotten into Tweaking Windows and knowing quite a bit about changing XP, configuring the BIOS and getting rid of viruses the manual way. Plus anything else that I may have bumped into, I have learned about.

So I like to think that I have a lot of options open. I'm finding Web Design to be something I'm getting quite good at, but there's billions of websites and billions of designers, I'm sure. I'm still not that hot on Programming besides from some Basic... Basic (Visual Basic). And I really don't know what to do next. I've really been waiting to set up a paypal account so I can buy hosting to build some websites on.

Well, so far I know...

HTML, XHTML, PHP, Javascript, XML, CSS, MySQL, AS2, Simple Visual Basic, Basic Hex and a few other thing I may have forgotten. So what next? I'm not sure what I should try learning or improving on. I've got plans for a course to do, but still... I think most of my learning will happen in my own room. At the moment I'm designing and making a Tech website which will feature loads of tutorials on stuff I know so far which I may end up attempting to launch or maybe sell if I manage to make it well. Problem is that at the moment I have no way to pay for hosting so I can't test PHP in the website unless I maybe set up a server on my computer... And that's a long process that I think isn't necessary...

One of the portions of my research paper is to interview a PC Repair Tech, so if any of you guys are certified and are willing to disclose some personal info (basic stuff: like name, email, name of graduating school) drop me a line at thexarses@gmail.com or PM me, I guess. Now, if this is violating any sort of rule, after all I am a newbie here, please delete it and I'll be on my merry way. Honestly, I'm not here to try to hack you or steal any personal info, I just need to talk to someone so I don't fail this class.

However, please find it in your heart to help a kid out with a research paper. Just this interview portion is worth a double project grade.
Thanks guys,

My job title is Tech Support/Help Desk. One day I aim to be a Systems Admin or something like that so I think this position is the first step to entry level.

My job Duties are:

dealing w/ support tickets for customers who have dedicated hosting, shared hosting, dedicated servers or enterprise servers

Making sure the network is up and running

Updating the servers via hardware or software components , making sure the servers are running smooth

Adding more harddrives and what not to the servers

Configure build and support Linux & Windows 2003 machines

Messing with the Cisco Routers and Switches

Learning about PHP,MySQL,SQL,Access Databases

Messing around with DNS & DHCP config settings , troubleshooting from our end and also helping the customer remotely also ( TELNET etc )

Ensure back ups of data

Also work with the development team learning all the fun stuff

Many more duties

I cannot believe I got the job. Its in a gigantic building Downtown Phoenix. Revolving Doors... REVOLVING DOORS~!! LOL only the rich people walk thru revolving doors hahahahaha jk

But seriously ... the place is freakn NICE. I got a badge and I swipe my card to go in and a hand scanner to get into the datacenter. The benefits are off the hook & they will even pay for my school.

I have MY OWN DESK NEAR A GIANT WINDOW with Dual Monitors~!!!!

We have a freakn Kitchen w/Microwave oven fridge and everything else in a kitchen with free burritos food snacks drinks etc .... its FREAKN CRAZY.

I get to eat anywhere I want while Im working, I can take breaks whenever I want. This is like ... dream job~?? HAHAHAH lol ...

Its a small family own webhosting business. I guess one of their employees of 5 years is moving on and they needed somebody to fill the position and to be dedicated and grow with the company. They chose me over 5-6 other people applicants that got interviewed the same day after me.

Its weird because I swear I sent & posted my resume to careerbuilder,Dice.com,Monster.com,USAjobs.com,craigslists etc etc like 500 times every 3 weeks or something.

I applied to every single IT job there was. No reply.

Then all of a sudden out of the blue ... I get a phone call ... " Hey we found your resume on craigslist and I would love to interview you " I was like holy crap wthek~!!!

I went downtown and found the address and was like " .... Uhhhh , this place is too big ... I dont even belong here LMAO " like it felt surreal , like if I was the president of the Galaxy or something

But when they interviewed me , they loved me~!! I had the experience they were looking for and I could not believe they wanted me to work there.

Im still shocked that I work in this insanely huge building downtown phoenix . I feel like a freakn baller. Probly cuz its one of the best jobs Ive landed.
Now I go to school full time and working full time . But I think it'll all be worth it after Im out of College and I got the experience I need to be a System Admin.

I had actually got hired for 3 other jobs but I had to turn them down due to conflicting school schedules.
