Hey, I've been lurking on this and other boards searching for a solution, but nothing posted has worked so far.

I'm on a laptop running Vista, and the system specs are up to Oblvion's requirements. However, when trying to install, it will not open the installation wizard and only responds with "Setup.exe has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution to this problem."

It does not return another error message, and the lack of information really limits my options when searching for others with a similar problem. I've updated my drivers, used the "run as administrator" option, and tried compatibility mode with Windows XP SP2, to no effect. I've tried other methods suggested in other forums, such as copying it to the D drive instead of the C drive and altering the UAC setting.

If anyone has any other suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I'm getting an error when trying to install Caesar IV, a game I bought from direct2drive.com. Following the advice of others who have had similar problems, I'm running the installation as an administrator and in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. However, I still get the 'setup.exe has stopped working' error. There is a 2-3 minute delay between double-clicking the icon and the User Account Control dialog box and a similar delay between the UAC box and the error message 'setup.exe has stopped working'. Any suggestions? I'm running Vista, but I have Windows 7 installation disks ready so I could upgrade if that would help.

Thanks :)

Well, I'm thoroughly frustrated with my Sims 2 game!

I recently downloaded it off BitTorrent (the 4CD one) and was able to install it no problem with MagicISO. Then It wouldn't play and kept telling me to insert the proper CD, so I downloaded a No CD Fix and hooray! Everything worked fine and dandy until today.

I dunno if this has any bearing, but I tried to mount the Sims 2 Seasons EP to Magic ISO, it didn't work, so then I decideed to just go back to playing.

Except whenever I click on the No CD Fix or even the regular .exe file, nothing at all happens. The game doesn't even start up. So, after a bit of searching, I decided to uninstall it and install it again... except now MagicISO won't work and I repeatedly get 'Cannot locate the CD-ROM: Please insert the correct CD-ROM, Select OK and Restart Application' messages.

Sooo to summarize, it wouldn't even open, I uninstalled it, and now I can't even install it again. Help? :( Thankyou very much.

My KOTOR disc is scratched and some data is beyond the ability to install. I'm not going to go and buy a new disc, so don't tell me to do that. What I'm wondering is how I can partially install KOTOR onto my computer. The install error comes near the end of the installation, and all that's left out is a few .wav voices files which I can live without. The game can live without them too, apparently, as the game files stayed on my hard drive once after the partial install and the game launched and played fine. I was wondering how I could get it to do that again, as once the error pops up and the installer closes I go to look for the install folder of the game and it isn't there. Just wondering how to partially install it again. =/

Hello there!
I'm new here, but heard lots of good stuff about this place,
so it's time for you to prove it was worth coming here.

I need some help with Linux stuff since I haven't used it much yet...

I have a domain and trying to install there Enemy Territory game but I have some problems. I have the installation file, 'et-linux-2.60.x86.run' and access to the path where I want it to be installated.

Now first, I would like to block the answers "You don't have permission to do that", "It's impossible without root access" etc. I have done this before on the same domain.

But the problem is, that this corporation with hosts my domain, had a hacker attack few days a go but they got it under control already. Still, they managed to hurt some parts of it, and to fix it they had to destroy all excisted domains and create new ones. So I lost all my files and so on. I had this "Install.sh" file there, wich I used to install the game (I'll explain how in a second) but now I don't have it anymore. Reason why I don't have it? My friend created it for me, but now he moved to study in a different country and he's not able to send it to me so I need help somewhere else.

'Install.sh' file included some sort of values, wich specified the path where to install the file. So I need some help from you guys to either search file, or create one.

Without this file, I get this sort of error:

----------
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Enemy Territory 2.60 Full Install...........................
cp: cannot create regular file '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': Permission denied
chmod: cannot access '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': No such file or directory
./setup.sh: Line 191: /var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377: No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': Permission denied
chmod: cannot access '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': No such file or directory
./setup.sh: Line 191: /var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377: No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': Permission denied
chmod: cannot access '/var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377': No such file or directory
./setup.sh: Line 191: /var/www/vhosts/ ... /.setup25377: No such file or directory
----------

I can't remember exactly what was in the file, but I remember there were 3-5 different '$Var = Value' type of things, '#!bin/bash' in the beginning (or something like that), and something else... Then in the end there were 'sh "./et-linux-2.60.x86.run"' and boom, it worked!

So can you maybe help me?

Thanks in advance!
