Okay, so I'm gonna be building a gaming computer. I need advice for pretty much everything. It's gonna go in a Dell Dimension 2400 case, unless I case mod, but I'm probably not gonna. Here's what I'm gonna need:

·Processor (I'm gonna go with Intel, I do more than just game, unless you can convince me otherwise. I want a 3 Ghz or higher.)

·Motherboard (need something that will fit in a space 10" high and 9.5" wide.)

·Power Supply (I'm not sure what size I need, just remember what case it's goin in)

·RAM (I want at least 2GB, so decent price please)

I'm not sure about the HDD I got, I don't know if it will work with it. If that happens, I'll get a new one later. I want a gaming computer with POWER, I want my friends to be jealous, and I want it to last, and I think that's it. I have a video card I'm okay with right now. Oh, and please find decent prices. Thanks!

pci dual head video card (presently installed)
SATA controller (for a 500 gb hd I just bought)
firewire card
tv tuner card
SCSI card (for an upcoming 15K rpm hard drive)

I would really love to get a CNR modem for the cnr slot. I want to leave this pc on to do answering machine duty as well. The problem is, by installing a cnr modem I will loose the support to hold a pci card. I could probably jury rig something to make up for this.

What order should I put these in? Does it make any difference? I presently have the video card next to the AGP slot.

Hi,

This is my first post and also my first ever build. Before I go ahead with it, I just wanted to check if all the parts are actually going to work together and whether you guys have any suggestions to improve the build. I'm trying to make it fairly future-proof, hence the 1156 socket and DDR3 memory.

My budget was around the £550 mark ($915) and overall came in to £527 ($875). This is without other peripherals such as a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers etc. which I won't be needing.

Anyway, here goes:

Motherboard: http://www.aria.co.uk/VendorStores//...roductId=37674

CPU: http://www.aria.co.uk/VendorStores//...roductId=37674

RAM: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=37612

Graphics Card: http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/P...tail_8599.html

Case + PSU: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=38447

Hard Drive: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...&rqcType=r#rqc

Optical Drive: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=37083

OS: Will be Windows 7

As this is my first build I thought I'd better get this checked before I start but I'm pretty sure it should all be okay. My only concerns are:
1) If the PSU (700W EZCool) will have all the right connections for the rest of my components and enough of them?
2) If I will need more cooling in the case or on the graphics card/CPU. Will the stock coolers be okay?
3) The PC will be used for gaming but I've been using integrated sound for a while now and have still had pretty damn good experiences gaming with the onboard sound... What are your opinions on sound cards and will I really need one?
4) As I mentioned, this will be used for gaming so how long will this kind of system stay 'up to date' and able to play the latest titles?

I probably could have got slightly better components but due to the prices being higher here in the UK, :sigh: I'm happy to settle with these. However, if you have any suggestions on different components that could work/perform better, please let me know and I will definately look into it, although I must warn you, I have always swayed more towards Intel and nVidia.

Any help will be very much appreciated and I thank you in advance!

Hi there, first time poster and builder, I am upgrading my PC to a newer one when the GeForce 300 series arrives. Obviously, I am going to build it myself. However I want to buy some of the components now and I was wondering if these parts are compatible and if this was a good idea?

I believe I have a general understanding of how to build a pc, so I am not worried about that.

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20W%20Gigabyte
RAM - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/C...-254826540.htm
Plus 2x1gb RAM in my current pc, not sure what exactly, not worried if that doesn't work.

Video Card - nVidia 8600 GT in current pc, upgrade to 300.

Hard Drive - 1 or 2 of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-395-_-Product
How many will I need?

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-007-_-Product
(current case)

OS - Windows 7 home premium.

DVD drive - Current DVD/RW in my pc, I assume it will work.

Thanks for your time!

P.S. Any suggestions are greatly appriciated

P.P.S I'm a gamer, is a sound card worth buying?

Hi.
Before I get started on asking for your guys' help, I would like to make this clear. I am very uneducated when it comes to this sort of stuff. Computers, ect.
I am asking that you help me with my computer modifications. I will be making a gaming (desktop) computer, but am not completely sure which modicfications will work, which won't, and what are just the best for their price and performance. I have a few selections made, but like I've said, I am not quite sure what is the best, and what would work with each other.
I've done sufficient research on what I'm trying to accomplish, yes, but once again, I'm not quite sure if what I've chosen will even work together, or what will work together, for that matter.
Also, I'm not sure whether or not I've included everything I will need to create my gaming computer, so if I haven't, please inform me of what I'm missing.
I greatly appreciate it!

Here is what I have been able to choose so far:
CPU - Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor
No CPU Cooler (if it's even necessary)
No Motherboard
No RAM (2gigs+ preferably)
No Graphic card
Video card - BFG GeForce 9800 GTX
No Hard Drive- (200GB+ preferebly)
I have a computer casing-- Modtek Alien-X Case
No DVD Burner
Monitor - Asus VH202T 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Gaming Keyboard - Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Gaming Mouse - Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse
I will also be using Windows 7.
None of the items listed above are 100%, there is always room to change them if necessary.
I greatly appreciate your help.

Looking to buy a new laptop mainly for gaming but also for some music too and came here for some advice on what to get. Currently I have a crappy EI system E3101 laptop which came with 256 RAM :sigh: although I did upgrade it to 1gb for VIsta, integrated graphics and sound cards through the Intel Celeron R 1.73gh processor and I'm finding I can't even enjoy old games much and struggle to keep up when using just a few applications. But hey, it was free

Any advice on what to get for a good gaming computer at around £500 uk?

The dilemma I have here is that I want to run two of the shown cards in SLI, but these cards are pretty big. Does anyone know if they will fit into this case?

The alternative case costs twice as much and will put me past my price limit, which I’m have exceeded but by an acceptable margin.

Alternativly I can get a Readeon 4890 HD card and wait a few months before hooking up a second one in Crossfire (different mobo). Does the wait and investing in an older generation of cards justify the price difference?
