My diagnostics show that it might be the graphics card drivers so I want to download the latest drivers to rule this out.

I went to Device manager to check the card (and later used the Aida diagnostics tool).

They both show:
Radeon X600/X550 series
Radeon X600/x550 series secondary
(both 256mb)

I only have one graphics card so why does it show two and which drivers should I download X600 or X550?

Very confused

Thanks

Its been 3 months rma'ed cards back and forth..yet I am unable to resolve the issue.
Trouble is I can't really find whats wrong.
All of a sudden for no reason (no matter what am I doing surfing, watching movies..or just idle) the screen blinks (like when installing the display drivers for the first time) for about a second or two and then comes back up.At times it may not even occur.

At first I thought the cable was at fault..I replaced the vga cable yet it resurfaced.
There is no such behavior from the onboard display..hence I thought the card was at fault
I rma'ed it twice.
Later I upgraded my card from xfx 9800 gt to xfx 4850 xxx edition.
Yet even after using two different chipsets the problem remains.

Now for the sake of troubleshooting what else could be faulty..here..

1)gpu is overheating...thats not the case ..it idles at 45c and goes upto 65 max

1) the monitor..but it works fine from onboard display..so can't really say that's the culprit

2) the psu...assuming the psu was faulty..it would have been much severe case coz there is no bsod, freezing, restarts which could suggest its at fault.

3) I have changed 3 gfx cards..so can't really say this third one is faulty.

Now the only doubt remains that

All this while I am using a pci 2.0 card on a 1.0 motherboard..but I have seen many using it flawlessly and that shouldn't really be a problem.

I am using an antec EA 430 whereas the recommended PSU is 450 but in reality my system is never using more than 315 watts ( as per antec's psu calculator with 30% capacitor ageing)The psu is 10 months old.

Other than the above said issue..everything works fine..so I can't really figure whats causing the screen to go blank for a few seconds and come back up

Hi guys.
I've got some serious issues with my games, think it's the GPU, which is a Geforce 8800 GTX with 768 mb ram.
It started in Batman: Arkham Asylum, but so far it has also occured in games such as Borderlands, Mass Effect, and Fifa 10.
The game runs fine for 20 seconds or so, then the framerate drops to 2-4 fps, for 15-20 seconds. Then the stuttering goes away and the game runs fine, for 20 secs, then it starts again. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating, and I'm running out of ideas. It makes no difference if I'm staring into a wall with absolutely no action on the screen, or there is some heavy fighting happening.
I tried reducing details, AA, resolution, turning PhysX on/off, and all the other obvious things. I tried upgrading drivers for sound and video, removing drivers and reinstalling them, all to no avail. Now I've run out of ideas...
The strange thing is that for some games there are no problems whatsoever... I run Aion, Arma 2, Tropico 3, Red Faction Renegade and Majesty 2 without any problems, but the other games are just impossible to play.
So, please help me, I'm completely lost, and my brand new games are just lying there on my table, gathering dust...

So, I have noticed that many programs are now utilsing ATI's Avivo software. My question is this, can I use Avivo to encode video files onto a DVD using my GPU (Radeon HD 4890)?

I have used Nvidia's "Badaboom" software to convert files to burn onto DVD's and found it to be amazingly faster than just utilising the CPU and I am hoping this to be the case with my ATI card too.

I currently have an I5 running at 4.1Ghz but every program I have tried so far never take the usage over 20%.

Any software that is optimsed for quad core CPU's is also very usefull, aslong as it is capable of burning AVI files.

Thanks in advance

I only have wintv6 and not the newer release wintv7 since I don't have a required original cd. I don't have a sound output on the card . I tested both TV cable and RCA without success and I googled alot, still no progress.

Videocard underperforming

My specs:

Windows XP SP3

Latest ATI drivers

My specs:

Windows XP SP3
2.9 ghz Duo-Core2
2gb RAM
1gb ATI Radeon 4870
Latest ATI drivers
575Watt PSU (a cheapo $30 one)

Problem:

I am heavily underperforming while playing games such as Dead Space or even HL2. In HL2, I can run max settings and only get 30 FPS at best. In Dead Space, I get 20 FPS. And yes, V-Sync is turned off in both games.

The strange thing is, I get the exact same FPS regardless of what settings I use (whether it be max settings or lowest settings). And I know it isn't my CPU or RAM, because when I had my old videocard (GeForce 8600GTS), I had BETTER performance than the 4870.

The videocard runs 70c on idle and 80c under load (a little less with fans at 100%), and I'm not sure why its so hot, I have the case open and adequate fanning.

Though, I suspect my problem is my PSU. Ever since I installed the 4870, occasionally when I turn on my computer, the display won't turn on and it'll give me continuous short beeps until I turn it off. But sometimes, it'll boot up like normal and run perfectly fine. I'm not sure what the cause of this is, but I'm thinking somehow my PSU isn't delivering enough power to my whole computer on some boots.

So what do you guys think? New PSU or what?

I'm running a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2.

It just recently stopped sending a signal to my monitor after I had just removed, and replaced my power supply. On the back of it are two LED lights that show me me their status (supports dual monitor). The primary display port LED normally shines blue, but now the LED doesn't shine at all (normally it would shine red if something wasn't connect properly). The LEDs that show if the plug-ins are connected correctly are shining green (meaning they are). The LED above the one that is faded is green (but I've never been able to use that one before).

I'm not getting any kind of signal anymore, and I can't find my manual to tell me what a faded LED means (or if it means that the LED is simply busted). Does anyone have any ideas?

Things tried so far:
Reseating the card.
Resetting the CMOS.

I recently tried to start playing 'dragon age' game with high settings on my pc. My pc started to shut down unexpectedly more and more frequent as I kept trying to play the game. Eventually it would shut down just with me while browsing the internet getting worse and worse. It would also shut down with no beeps or boot up warnings. I updated my driver and still nothing fixed.

The next day I thought I would give the tower a dust to see if that would help.
After that, I tried to start up the pc and now its worse. I get power to the everything except the video card. The hard drive doesn't sound like booting the OS. I also discover that the fan on the video card is not spinning.

My first assumption is the video card and/or PSU is fried. I tried replacing the graphics card with a brand new one. And I get the same thing when I try to boot up(everything seems powered except the graphics card), so it seems its not a video card problem.

I pray its not a driver or motherboard issue. I'm about to try replacing the PSU today and hoping that was the only problem.

My specs:
os: XP64
PSU:800watt
GPU: Nvidia 9800gtx and Nvidia 285gtx

I'm a little scared to problem solve this on my own and figure out those arent the issues. Any thoughts on what this could be? Thanks in advance...

After a ton of fiddling with drivers for the card, I finally looked up a requirements scan for Sims 3 [http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10302/ ]. It says:
"Sorry, The Sims 3 will not run on your computer.
* The Game-o-Meter detects that your video card has 64 MB onboard video memory. You need to upgrade to a video card with at least 128 MB onboard video memory."
Something also said that the card doesn't support Pixel Shader 2.0 either.

I know that my video card is 128 MBs. I even downloaded Everest to check.
Buying a new card is not an option because it worked perfectly with my current one.

I need some advice, solutions?
Thanks in advance.
