Can anyone tell me how I can get my HP Pavilion DV6600 to get along with my XP audio device. Why did Windows make it so difficult for us to go back to XP? Its like they have a mission to get us to use Vista, whether we like it or not.
My sound device is not being recognized after I downgraded from Vista to XP.
I took apart my laptop to find out what sound device was on the Motherboard. I found a Realtec chip but when i tried to install it, i got a message saying 'no audio device was found for this media'.
I also got the same message with Conexant and Microsoft UAA.
Please tell me there is a way around this nightmare, without going back to VISTA.:sigh:

Can't get the sound (speakers or headphones) to work. Tried to reinstall drivers, my sound card is enabled and everything is unmuted, the device is turned on in BIOS, and tried everything else I can think of but there is just no sound at all, ever. I even tried taking the sound card out and putting it back into the motherboard.

A few weeks ago the capacitors on my motherboard blew and I brought it to a shop. They soddered on new capacitors (and also repaired my RAID system, and cleaned up my registry, in case its useful - they didn't touch my BIOS or reinstall my Operating System, which is XP) and the computer boots up just fine and everything looks normal - i can access all my files and everything - but no sound at all.

Under Audio Device Options I used to have several options to choose from, but now I only have one: "SoundMAX Digital Audio" (which it says is working properly even though it is not, and that the drivers are installed/updated.) The name of the audio device under Hardware is "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio" by Analog Devices.

The weird thing is that before this problem, I used to have 3-4 audio devices to pick from, and if i recall correctly I think one of them was a Creative Sound Blaster. But now that doesnt appear at all, just the SoundMAX option. Also, when I go to Start>All Programs>Creative>Creative Audio Console it just gives me the following error:

"Unable to find Audio device. Please make sure that your audio device is enabled and installed with it's driver. This specification will be closed"

So I think my computer is not recognizing my sound card at all.

Some other potentially useful info:

M1SB0353457004579B
Creative Labs Model Number: SB0350
ML-DP-1554 47130 47011EA

The version of the installed drivers is 5.12.1.5246
The card is in PCI bus 0, device 30, function 2

Do I need to install a new sound card? Is there any place I can pick up a used one for pretty cheap?

Can anyone help? Thank you!

I don't quite know where to put this, but I figure it's more related to audio than anything else.

I have a Centurion CM 590 case with front panel audio jacks (HD Audio). They are connected to my motherboard's (ASUS P5Q Pro) HD Audio chassis port. When I plug my headphones or mic into the front panel jacks, my computer (Windows 7) will not recognize them unless I apply constant pressure to the jacks. The moment I release pressure, they disconnect according to Windows. While "connected" (applying pressure) Windows will pick up input from my mic and it generally works as it should. When I am applying pressure, the plugs don't move visibly. As far as my naked eye can tell, they are seated just as well in the jacks whether I apply pressure or not.

This same set of headphones/mic works perfectly on the rear jacks of my motherboard.

I don't really know what could be causing this problem, dismissing the possibility that my plugs are literally fractions of a millimeter short of contact inside the jacks.

I'm having a problem with my audio making a pretty constant popping sound. It only does it when I'm playing 3d games though.

It all seemed to start when I upgraded my video card. I went from a nvidia 6200 to an nvidia 8800gt.

At first I thought that it was just my onboard audio dying so I bought a pci sound card. Problem didn't change.

I also only have the problem with vista or windows 7. It doesn't do it in xp and it only seems to happen when the 8800gt is installed. I can switch back to my 6200 and not have a problem.

So with all that it leads me to believe that the video card or video card drivers are the culprit. I've done some googling and found a few other topics with a similar problem but no answers.

Something of note I noticed is that when I start up a 3d program my dpc latency goes really high.

Before 3d program:

During:

Then once I close the program it goes back down.

All my drivers are up to date.

I'd really appreciate any ideas.

My system:
-Intel Pentium D
-Nvidia 8800gt
-Creative Soundblaster X-FI Extreme Audio
-DFI Infinity NF650i Ultra
-2 WD HD's
-2 Monitors
-4 gigs DDR2 Dual Channel

Hi guys,

I am having a problem with ACID and my sound card. To give you a fair idea of my computer abilities, it is best perhaps stated that I prefer the original Age of Empires to any of the sequels.

Anyway my problem is that when I create a new track on ACID, the rest of my project is being recorded through the headphones jack somehow. ACID's website had this to say:-

"Check the input settings on the sound card's software mixer to ensure that only the input you wish to record from is selected as the input device. Make sure that you do not have the sound card's wave output (often listed as "Wave" or "Wave Audio", on some cards "What U Hear" or "Mixed Output") selected as an input device."

I attempted to do this last night, and I could not find any software mixer whatsoever. I right-clicked my speaker icon, went to properties, found "recording" tab, which said something like "Realtek Audio" and I double-clicked, but was unable to change any of the output settings.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi

I'm not too sure how to explain the problem I am having, but I will have a go.

When a DVD changes scene, or a new track comes on Media Player, or a game changes zone, the sound cuts out. It only comes back on once there is a louder section in the song, or some talking on the movie etc.

Almost as though it is not recognising that there is any sound until it really kicks in.

Since this is happening on all programs, I don't think it is Media Player. And I don't believe it is my tv as I can watch DVDs on my Xbox360 without a problem.

I have tried installing the latest Realtek HD driver, but it has made no difference.

My spec is as below. (Apologies if there is too much information here, I am not sure what you need)
