Hey everyone. I have been on a mission to solve this problem. I've been seeking out and posting on several MS/tech/computer support forums looking for an answer. I've also spent quite a bit of time googling for a solution on my own. So far I have come up empty handed.

My situtaiton and problem is as follows:

I'm working in a small office where we have some computers running Windows Vista and using Windows Mail (version 6.0.6000.16388). We have hundreds of contacts and a couple of contact groups on these computer.

A few months ago we got two new computers which are using Windows XP and Windows Live mail (version 2009, build 14.0.8089.0726). Other computers in the office still have Vista and the other version of Windows Mail.

I have been able to export our hundreds of contacts and import them into Windows Live Mail so the new computers have all of the contacts... however I was unable to find a way to import the groups.

These groups are all very large and consist mostly/entirely out of contacts which don't have individual contact entries.

I have been googling to find a solution to this problem. The closest page I could find was this one:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ct-groups.html

I was very discouraged when I saw the big red warning near the top of the page:

---------------
In Contact Groups from Vista, only the contacts that are also included as normal Contacts will be imported into Windows Live Mail. Contacts that were created for the Contact Group only will not be imported into Windows Live Mail. You will need to write these down and manually add them back into Windows Live Mail.
---------------

This pretty much described my situtation exactly, but manually going through all the groups, writing down all the contacts, then manually importing into two separate machines would take forever and is simply not an option.

Is there really no other way I can get these groups into Windows Live Mail?

I find it extremely hard to believe that this basic (or at least it should be basic) task is simply IMPOSSIBLE to do, but that seems to be the only response I've been getting so far.

Another thing is that I have several years computer programming experience, so if there really is no way to do this with existing tools, I don't mind writing my own tool, but in order to do so I'd need file format details of both the old Windows Mail *.group files and the Windows Live Mail monolithic contact file. I have been unable to dig up any information on either of them.

Can anybody point me in the right direction here? Thanks so much!

This was an upgrade not a wiped custom install.
Machine is Intel desktop, ASUS P5Q motherboard, Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz. Install from USB flash drive using MS dlownload manager executable, because I have not received the backup CD media as yet. I ordered online from MS Website because local retailer did not have it.

Install attempt on evening of 11/18 froze at point of requesting entry of Product Key, as I learned of the next morning. USB wireless mouse and keyboard became non-functioning. Forced power down so I could go to work. Next evening, power on to the same frozen display. Powered down again and removed and disconnected all USB devices and audio connections. Power on to reboot, but boot is not successful even in Safe modes nor last known good version of OS.

Attached is my documented sequence of events and hardware details. What is my next move? I do not want to have to do a clean install! Continue Win7 install, but wait until I receive CD from MS? Revert to Vista by reloading from Vista CD?

I've been through a lot of forums and posts but none seem to have my problem, and the scarce few that do are unanswered in remote regions of the internet.

My computer seems to be working fine, I load up Vista and my startup seems to run right, however my problem is that explorer.exe will no longer load the desktop icons and the taskbar. the explorer.exe now only opens the Windows Explorer, the little window that a layman would use to navigate their documents or my computer. No matter how many times I restart explorer.exe from the task manager, it just keeps loading me another Windows Explorer window

As a little background, I generally leave my computer on and hibernate it when not using it. Recently however I went rampant on deleting things from my windows startup on AVG for some unknown reason. I don't believe the software would allow me to delete anything crucial... but anyways, everything on my computer runs correctly, internet, games, whatnot, except that I'm incredibly hassled by not having a desktop or taskbar.

Any help? I'm sorry if I didn't search correctly and this was actually answered elsewhere, but I really have been looking desperately for a solution for 3 days on end.

I also do not have my Vista install cd, since this is a laptop my dad received as a gift from his company and passed on to me when he got another one.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Explaining my problem is sort of a long story, so I'm including what I think is most relivant.

Back in May, my 2002 dell with windows xp finally ceased to live and I purchased a new gateway hard drive. Everything worked amazingly for a while until suddenly every time I tried to open a link I would get a DEP error message.

Being fairly computer savy, I clicked on the annoying little message that pops up and followed the steps exactly. I went to settings changed it to turn on except for programs I select and added the IE.exe I've done this dozens of times but still nothing has changed.

Can someone please help me fix this?

Hi there,

I recently had to get a new harddrive in my Dell Inspiron Laptop (my ONE YEAR OLD inspiron laptop ).

When I got it back, the harddrive is fine and all my info is back, but I can't change my power plans. It will tell me that "Windows cannot make the plan you selected active. Choose a different plan. The system cannot find the specified file." Additionally, I am unable to change the options for what the computer does when I close the lid. It will tell me that "Windows cannot save some of your changes to this plan's power settings. The system cannot find the specified file." Lastly, before the new harddrive I had a power-saving battery mode. Now it does not exist.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!

I upgraded Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and reboot; then my mouse stops responding, I plug in my tablet and it won't respond either.

I check the device manager and as expected there are little yellow triangles next to the mice.

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Is the message I get after clicking through.

A quick google suggests I remove Upper and LowerFilters in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\

Although it was for CD\DVD drives on all the posts I looked at I went ahead and tried it out, no luck.

It removed the yellow triangles and now windows thinks they're working OK but still unresponsive to any movement.

I went back to the device manager and deleted all the mice, then scanned for hardware changes, still no luck.

I tried a reboot & F8 and Last Known Good Configuration, cursor still stuck in the centre of the screen.

Lastly, I uninstalled Kaspersky, but it still won't go anywhere.

It's definitely a software issue, Win XP on the same PC has no issues with the same mouse and tablet.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I have been getting BSOD and ignoring and starting windows normally, until it got worse with crashes 2 or 3 times a day. I have Acronis true image so have a back up on a mybook external HDD. In exasperaton I went for a reinstall of Vista. Probably a bad move, defo a bad move as I still have the BSOD, worse now, can hardly log on after downloading updates and drivers simultaneously, I went to move a window, PC had a hissy fit and crashed again. Managed a start in safe mode tried to use check disc facility which asked for a reboot, now I cannot even get into windows however I try. I cannot even boot from the Vista Disk!
I have gone about this the wrong way, should have asked first.
I have all fingers crossed.

Hello, TechSupport.

I've been to various general Question/Answer sites, though I've gotten no solution to my problems. As such, I've decided to post my troubles on a forums in the hopes of a diagnosis.

The first breakdown I had with my OS was around 3 weeks ago, my taskbar's Start Menu button was unresponsive, to clicking, via control panel and the Windows key (lights up though no menu appears). I ignored this (as it happened before for limited periods), though it did not go away. I can right click and explore, though that is of little use.

I realised a couple weeks ago that my whole taskbar was also unresponsive (I don't right click it often). I can access actual open items in my notifications area as well as my shortcuts and open windows, though the empty bar itself does not respond to right clicks. And, as with the Start menu, if I open option via Control Panel the windows shuts instantly.

I've also started getting problems on opening 2 programs that I could before with no troubles. GammonEmpire (I use this infrequently) came with a stream of errors, followed by the working program (no complaints) and Gimp which, after a stream of errors, refused to open.

More recently I've started receving notification area items that I haven't seen in ages. The first of which is my Windows Security Alert (the big red X), which opens on startup. Sometimes my whole security is disabled, other times it's fine. Then I got a stream of old notifications, long ago disabled (Veoh Web Player and HP Installer, both at the same time).

A problem I've experienced for months is several BSoDs "Memory Management/IRQL Not Less or Equal" (infrequent, once every few days or week) though can happen many times if playing a game with a graphics engine. I've attributed this to lack of RAM (2 gigs) along with a very weak in-built video card that seeps RAM from the motherboard, piled on the fact that I'm running Vista and the game needs RAM. This will be resolved soon by a huge graphics upgrade and more RAM.

Whenever I get a BSoD it is not uncommon for me to experience complete delay on logging in (after I shutdown), usually ending with an empty black screen where my Desktop should be (solved by task administrator, zap explorer and restart it).

I've used Avast antivirus Home Edition to scan multiple times and always have protection up. Someone mentioned that my antivirus could be missing a virus, so, on their suggestion, I installed Nod32 along with an antimalware, ending with long scans showing nothing.

I'm somewhat reluctant to reformat Vista, as I've got everything lumped into a single partition. Though I resolve to find away to partition out all my data and reformat Vista before I install some hardware later on.

I haven't System Restored, as I haven't yet found a way to access it without the search function. I'm also reluctant to do that (as I've got over 3 weeks of changes in data on my PC), though I'm willing to try it as soon as I find out how.

As time goes by the list seems to get longer, meaning more reading, meaning less willing to read it.

The list of symptoms:
·Can't access Start Menu
·Can't access taskbar properties (including notification area)
·New stream of errors with certain programs
·New notification area items, including empty security alerts
·Long term BSoDs

If you can diagnose the problem or better yet, find a solution, can instruct me on finding the System Restore or can instruct me on how to partition out my data and reformat Vista, I will honestly be extremely grateful.

Unfortunately,I can't hardwire the 360 because of where it's located in my house.
