The green light in the back keeps flashing/blinking and the blue light in the front does the same thing. I opened the computer up and took out the power supply from the computer/motherboard and plugged it in. The green light was solid and did not flash. After plugging it back into the computer it flashed and would not turn on.

Could the motherboard be bad?

Should I replace the motherbaord or buy a new dekstop?

This computer is not used for everyday stuff.

I test operating systems, such as windows 7 beta and linux on this computer.

Thanks.

Hello, New here but a friend recomended your site. I am having trouble with my desktop pc that I built and need some help. I run windows XP 32 bit OS,
Asus P5Q Turbo mobo, Intel E8400 processor, Zalman cpu cooler, Crucial ballistix ram DDR-2 800 (4 gigs), Evga 8400 graphics card, creative titanium sound card,
WD 300 GB Velociraptor HD. I also use 2 HP 22" monitors. I had a power outage at my house, which seemed to start my problem. When I power up my system, the monitors will not come on, they stay asleep. I thought my vid card had gone south. I have a spare so I installed it, no luck. Next, I have a spare mobo, Evga 780I, so I changed it out, not luck. I tried testing my monitors on my laptop using the same signal cables and they work fine.
Not really sure what else it could be. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

The past week I've been experiencing random shut downs of my pc. It started when I wanted to play sims 3 again. I couldn't play it for more than 2 minutes max before my pc would completely shut down without any warning. It has been a few weeks before I last played it, and it used to work just fine. After each shutdown I could start up my pc again, and everything else seems to work fine. First I thought it might be a heating problem, but I tested the temps and the CPU temp only comes above 40 C when really stressing it (around 30 idle), and the core temps hardly reach 50 C at 100% activity. Would also be a little strange, cause this pc is only a few months old and I have been extra careful with it.
So what can it be? A faulty power supply or ram problems? I did try running memtest, and I experience the same shutdowns whenever I test it. Usually it won't even reach 1%. Ditto with the memory test that comes with Vista, but with that one I *might* be able to reach 50% on the first test, but after that points it shuts down for sure.
I thought it was only a problem when playing games, but since yesterday I've been experiencing random shutdowns (2-3 times) when surfing around as well. And today it even shutdown completely when starting up. Lost complete confidence in this pc, wondering what the problem could be.
I checked for viruses as well, but nothing to find. Don't know how I can check if it's a faulty power supply.
I also wondered what I installed or downloaded what it could have triggered. And the only thing I can think of is installing a 5 year old USB dongle (ZyDAS ZD1211 802.11 b+g Wireless LAN) for a new wireless internet connection 3 days ago. Could that be the problem? But I've also removed it once, uninstalled the driver, ran a ramtest and it still would shut down on me. Also checked those system logs, but the only error it will report is that the system shutdown unexpectedly the last time. But I'm not much of a computer expert, so I don't know how to read those properly. Also tried to update every driver I can think of, but nothing helps.
Anyone have a clue what it might be?
Thanks.
Apparently it is possible and i wanted to know if i can somehow make sure it is safe and stable to be running like that, a friend of mine offered me to use GPU-Z to see the ampares my card uses and it shows:
IDLE declocked: 1.7A
IDLE: 5.2A
LOAD: 40.1A
benchmark LOAD: 50.5A

I did not noticed any change to my pc while running benchmarks and games and preformace were maximized, but i am still worried if its normal or not.
Im looking to get one of 400-450W and would like to know what my best option is. Im mainly worried about buying one that either won't fit, won't connect correctly, or won't be compatible. I read about how some OEM PCs don't are hard to get new power supplies for so I don't wanna make a mistake. Here are the specs since I'm figuring you will only need the mobo and comp model.

Hi there! I was wondering if you could help me answer a problem I'm having...

After my last gaming computer suffered a motherboard failure about 2 years ago- I Recently choose to build a new computer(full system specs at bottom of post). While I am mostly content with it's performance, I do have a reoccurring problem- sometimes in video games(Oblivion, Fallout 3, ext...) my computer screen begins to shake violently and occasionally goes black before coming back. Very occasionally I have full restarts too (but only during games).

Now there are three parts that I think might be causing this. My,

3-4 year old Antec Truepower 550 Watt Continuous Power ATX12V v2.0

New Corsair Dominator 2048mb 1066mhz cm2x2048-8500c5d

or my 3-4 year old BFG Geforce 7800gtx (But I understand this is the wrong forum for that part.)

My concerns about my power supply stem from the fact that it's now probably 3-4 years old and it might have too low of a wattage for my new computer.

Similarly my Dominator worries me because I purchased it several months ago when Corsair had a bad batch going around. Of the two sticks I purchased one was bad and is currently sitting on a shelf waiting to be returned- could the screen shaking be caused by the second one going bad?

I'm wondering if either the RAM or the power supply may be at fault here? Also secondly I'm curious if my power supply is "powerful" enough for my computer?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, this is preventing me from playing games on my gaming computer. =/

Hi all,

first of all here is my rig:

core 2 duo e8400 cpu
GA-EP45-DS3 Mobo
g.skill 4 X 1 GB pc8500 1066mhz 5-5-5-15
4870 gfx card

so i recently decided to upgrade to 4 GB of ram after initially having 2 GB running perfecly for over a year on windows vista 32BIT.
I got the extra 2GBs because i got win7 64 bit -------so i bought exacly the same ram as my old one G.skill 2 x 1 GB pc8500 1066mhz 5-5-5-15

The problem is the system wont boot after I install the 4 sticks of ram but will run perfecly fine with 2 sticks

Ive tried the 2 new sticks alone and they worked but using all of the 4GB wont let me boot the system I also tried diffrent combinations like old ram with new and results were that as long as its 2GB it will boot but not 4GB

after a lot of googling here are the thing i tried until now:

updated bios - nothing
shifted the sticks in diffrent combinations -nothing
i set the voltage to 2.0V and 2.1V in BIOS (on the ram the sticker says 2.0-2.1v) -nothing
i installed and reinstalled the sticks many times -nothing

Im really desperate ive tried everything

anyone has an idea of whats happening? im sure nothing is defective when it comes to hardware because i tried the sticks on the 2 other slots alone and system booted

Thanks in advance

I have an Acer Aspire 5520-5865 Laptop (dual channel support). I currently have 2 ram slots with 512 in each slot. My manual says I can upgrade to 4 gigs but will my 32 bit OS recognize the full 4 gigs? Perhaps I should stick with 1 gig in each slot (DDR2 Ram PC5300 667 MHZ).

Hi guys not sure what the problem is but as of recent whenever running XP on my computer it freezes at random intervals. It isnt simply at times of stress such as a high end programs or games - it can happen even when idle and nothing is really happening. Sometimes like as of now it does not freeze for a long amount of time.
Im beginning to think of it as a heating issue...
Im not sure if this is a hardware or software problem. This comp was built about a year ago with new parts all put together myself and has only been formatted once (due to family member downloading a malicious program).
It has been running since that however until recent as stated.
Im currently using Superantispyware, advanced system care, spy ware terminator and AVG to look after my computer.
I do not recall any significant event that can be linked with this problem either.
