This wouldn't be the first time data was smugged or forged by AGW scientists or scientists in general, but I hope this is a hoax. Soldiers destroyed the walkways because they were being used by illegal militia and drug traffickers, said Eusebio Aguero, an army general based in the border state of Táchira.

"They are two foot bridges that paramilitary fighters used, where gasoline and drug precursors were smuggled, subversive groups entered. They are not considered in any international treaty."

However Colombia denounced the action as a violation of international law that would worsen the diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

Colombia's defence minister, Gabriel Silva, said Bogotá would lodge a complaint with the United Nations and the Organisation of American States over the "aggression".

The decision comes down from the US Department of Homeland Security:

Arpaio will still have the power to check the immigration status of people booked by his officers, but not the authority to conduct street patrols looking for illegal immigrants.
His “crime suppression operations” are saturation patrols in designated areas where deputies would find illegal immigrants by stopping them for traffic infractions and minor violations...

The department of Justice and other federal agencies are investigating the sheriff’s office on accusations of racial profiling during the operations [according to local news sources].

Arpaio said he will be able to still conduct the crime sweeps under state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.

A spokesman for the Phoenix office of ICE declined to comment until after pending agreements with the country are signed.

"It's all politics," the Sheriff said. He has vowed to continue his operations to bust illegal immigrants in his community, despite Homeland Security's decision.

Isn't Sheriff Arpaio just trying to keep the homeland safe? Maybe Homeland Security could learn a thing or two from him...

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care? Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture — a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senator Bernie Sanders on Friday introduced legislation that would make the U.S. Treasury Department identify and break up financial institutions that are "too big to fail."

Sanders, an independent, in a statement said: "If an institution is too big to fail, it is too big to exist ... We should break them up so they are no longer in a position to bring down the entire economy."

The Sanders bill came at a time when Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives were considering similar legislation.

Representative Paul Kanjorski, chairman of the House capital markets subcommittee is working on an amendment to give a proposed systemic risk regulator more power to regulate the size of firms whose failure could threaten the economy.

Sanders said: "We should end the concentration of ownership that has resulted in just four huge financial institutions holding half the mortgages in America, controlling two-thirds of the credit cards, and amassing 40 percent of all deposits."

Sanders' legislation would give Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner 90 days to compile a list of commercial banks, investment banks, hedge funds and insurance companies that he deems too big to fail.

That would mean "any entity that has grown so large that its failure would have a catastrophic effect on the stability of either the financial system or the United States economy without substantial government assistance," the statement said.

The Democratic chairman of the House Appropriations Committee is demanding greater accountability from the the Obama administration after gross inaccuracies were found on a government Web site that tracks jobs purportedly saved or created by the $787 billion stimulus plan.

But Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin isn't against Congress spending more money for another jobs package next year, and said the mistakes undermine what has been an otherwise successful stimulus package.

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Obey called the inaccuracies on Recovery.gov "infuriating" and said the success of the government's stimulus package has been "obscured by the silly mistakes."
