Hi, ( This is a follow up from my earlier post problem, this is still connected , but a new problem.)
I have a new external floppy disk drive , it has corrected the computer crashes when a floppy disk is inserted. That`s GOOD !
( Moan, gnashing of teeth, getting ready to scream.) Now it says the inserted floppy disk is NOT formatted. My disks ARE formatted. I tried several disks and a NEW blank disk which is formatted, it says it is NOT formatted , I clicked format, it says it can`t format the disk. So I still can`t access my images on my floppies. :sigh:
I did the TROUBLESHOOT thingy, Device Manager, etc., I checked all the stuff related, it is ALL WORKING PROPERLY, it SAYS. Also, have done the Belarc Advisor computer profile, so if you want more info , I have it.
Any assistance will be appreciated, thanks ! Win XP

Please don't laugh. I am rather new to personal computing and I've recently purchased a custom HP Pavilion Slimline desktop model s5200z running with Windows 7 (64-bit) OS, 2.7 GHz, 320 GB HDD, AMD Athlon II triple-core (x3) processor. At the front of my enclosure is a flip-open area that states "HP Pocket Media Drive". Flipping open the door reveals an empty space, presumably for a pocket media drive. What is this thing? Even the (less than comprehensive) online HP manual for my computer makes no mention of this drive. Please describe what types of media might be able to be used in this drive and how could I find out if any of these would function before I purchase any. This is not the same as a port for SD / MS/ xD, which is also on the front panel of my computer. Now you can laugh if you can't resist, but please help me. P.S. It appears that there's a USB(?) input of some type and a curved metal band deep within the well of the pocket media "drive". Thank you for your help.

"I recently had a very nasty virus on my computer and decided to format. When I put Windows XP back on my computer I downloaded a few drivers and what not but my speakers don't seem to want to work.

In the Device Manager, under "Sound, video and game controllers" it has one device listed that says "C-Media AC97 Audio Device" which, in that device's properties, says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've downloaded several different drivers that I thought might work but when I try to run them I either get a message that says I don't have an audio device hooked up or a message that says "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again."

I'm sure my speakers are plugged into the computer and they're turned on. I took the side pannel off my tower but I don't see a sound card. It looks like my audio devices plug directly into the motherboard. And when I go to the start menu and click Run, then type dxdiag, the sound tab says at the bottum "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

Also, if it is of any importance, there's no little volume control icon in the right lower corner of my task bar."

okay, i pretty much have the same exact problem as this guy.

i pretty much only use my computer for music, so without speakers it sucks.

if its of any importance my speakers are made by insignia so if i had some sort of CD its most definitely gone.

Running XP Pro. Have two CD/DVD R/RW drives. I have been only using the primary drive. It has been working fine, no problems. I recently re-install Windows XP Pro SP3, with Office 2000. Have other programs Nero 7, BitDefender and a few others. The drive has been reading and burning OK.

A few weeks ago I recall trying to open a DVD RW disc that I had used to back up files and it 'ran' for a while and would not stop (plus did not open). Had to force it to stop. From then the drive would not work. I tried Nero to erase the disc, but it would not erase. Have deleted the drives in the Device Managers section and rebooted, still the drives would not work.

Have deleted Nero 7 and installed Nero 8. Still no go. Have searched the net and came to one that advised to 'To delete the offending keys, open the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. . Delete the keys named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and reboot.'

I could not find and UpperFilders or LowFilters. Went to the MS site and downloaded the FixIt program and it did not fix the problem. They also referred to manually fix the problem using the above about deleting the offending keys which I could not find.

Other than doing another re-installation of Windows, is there another solution.

Hi,
My external floppy drive worked for more than 2 years , recently when I inserted a diskette , it began freezing my computer, then it would reboot itself, and I would get a pop up message: serious error. I bought a new Sabrent Model No. FD -05PUB external floppy drive , same thing happens. I tried different USB ports and different floppies.( I only sometimes use it for viewing images, as I have a camera that only uses floppies). No driver was with this new one, their tech guy said it didn`t need a driver. Said I could ask for a replacement from the seller, offered no further help.
It shows on my device manager and only crashes computer when the diskette is inserted.Since the new one does the exact same thing as the old one, I now suppose something could be wrong with my computer itself.
:4-dontkno ???
My computer is a HP Compaq Presario 2800+ AMD Athlon , 512 MB, Win XP, SP3, IE7. It has no internal floppy disk drive. Any help would be appreciated !Thank you !

I had an installation of windows 7, and just bought a new audio interface. The drivers weren't supported by 7, and I was having some trouble with it, so I figured I'd just format and go with XP instead. I popped the windows 7 DVD into the drive, restarted and deleted the partition with my windows install on it. Then I rebooted with the XP disk in the drive, and waited... and waited. What followed was "No bootable device detected." I noticed the BIOS wasn't reading my dvd-rom drive, and POST was running really really slowly. I flashed the CMOS and it removed the problem - my dvd-rom drive was recognized, and POST was back up to speed. However, i'm still getting the "no bootable device" message when I start up. I have DVD-rom first on the BIOS boot list, but when I have a dvd in there, the POST process takes a really long time, like it's having trouble reading the disc. I've tried it on other computers, so I know the disc is fine. Has windows 7 somehow bricked my dvd-rom drive, or are there bigger problems afoot? Please help!
