I might be an idiot!

Ok so here is the scoop I registered a domain say www.domain.com . I have a web program that I would like to run on my server, but the website run on a different server. The application requires SSL. SO what I did was create an mx record a-name www.domain.com to point to a different host, and the web application got another mxrecord a-name like sub.domain.com with the public ip address of my server. Next I go into IIS and make the default web page say sub.domain.com and reference to the supposed appropriate directory that accomodates the web application that I am running. The SSL certificate must correspond directly and precisely to the domain address. (sub.domain.com) So 1. Did I set this "virtual domain" up properly or am I a retard? 2. If I did screw it up, can the SSL certificate be reissued under a different domain or would I need to purchase a new one? 3. Did I set up the mx-records to correctly correspond with how I set up the server? some people say they can browse it, I am having trouble myself, and the web application will not work, I am getting some .net errors (see my other post). If anyone can help me, I would be utterly grateful

I'm not too familiar with IIS, but yes, the SSL certificate needs to be assigned to a specific domain/subdomain. It also requires the use of a dedicated IP address. You can't share IP's when an SSL is involved. Also, MX records are for email, not for the domains themselves.

.

Ahh yes mx records.. mail exchange your right.. but you know what I was talking about. A name or whatever the technical name is. SO the IP address would be different but im just wondering is that the proper way to set up the virtual domain of sub.domain.com? As far as the registrar is concerned? And how about someone who knows more about IIS?

sorry, I think the both of us deal mostly in Apache.... there aren't too many IIS users such as yourself out there, sadly.
