[SOLVED] help with apache

Hi,

I am having a problem with my apache server on my fedora box. Everytime that I go to try to access it I get this message.
Quote:
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server.
Apache/2.2.10 (Fedora) Server at localhost Port 80
I don't know what the issue is. I have tried everything that I know how to do. I have removed all of the files and then re-installed. I have tryed to access it as root. I am at the end of my ideas. I thought that I would be able to set it up pretty easy. But aparently it isn't playing nicely.

Any help would be great. If you have to move this to the linux forum feel free. I wasn't sure which one to post in so I figured that I would start here.

Cheers!

Re: help with apache

Have you tried using a different port (no idea how to do this, sorry)? Some ISPs block port 80 for this reason. A quick way to test this is to use ShieldsUP [https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2] without your firewall or router. If port 80 shows up as Stealth, that means your ISP is blocking port 80 and you will need to use a different port.

Re: help with apache

I should have made myself more clear. This is from my server. When I try to get to "localhost". I haven't tried to reach it from the outside world.

Cheers!

Re: help with apache

Yes, so try another port. Your ISP can not control how you access what is attached to your computer :).

Re: help with apache

Ok, I will give that a try and see what is going on wrong.

Edit: I gave that a go changing the port to 8080, and it is still giving me a Forbidden error. I guess that I could try a re-install again? But I just don't get it.

Edit2: I looked in my /html file and say that I had a different index.html file in there. I deleted it and then I was all set. I guess I should have looked there first.

Cheers!
