Webhosting How-To

Hi all,

So, I'm sure this question gets asked all of the time... How do I go about hosting a website from my home PC for free?? I've tried countless times to set this up, but can't seem to get things right.

I've tried a combination of ZoneEdit, Appache, DynamicUpdate, and some other stuff I can't remember. I seem to have thoroughly confused myself on the workings of webhosting, DNS, portforwarding, dynamic IPs, ect...

Below is a list of basically what I'm working with. I know this is a lot to ask, but where I've gotten up to this point, leaves me really needing some step by step help...or at least a starting point. Thank you so much!!! Any help is greatly appreciated. (so I can stop banging my head against this wall )

• Dynamic IP
• NetGear router w/firewall
- (2 wired PCs, one will be webserver; +wireless)
• XP SP2
• ZoneAlarm firewall

• Domain registered with Yahoo (reset to defaults):
- A Record: xxxxxxx.com | Destination: Yahoo! IP Address
- A Record: www.xxxxxx.com | Destination: Yahoo! IP Address
- CNAME Record: *.xxxxxx.com | Destination: Yahoo! IP Address
- CNAME Record: mail.xxxxxx.com | Destination: Yahoo! IP Address

Mail Server Host Name:
- Yahoo! Mail Server | Priority: 20
- Yahoo! Mail Server | Priority: 30

Nameservers:
- Primary: yns1.yahoo.com
- Secondary: yns2.yahoo.com

Re: Webhosting How-To

My appologies upfront if this post is making some folks cringe. I know this sounds like a complete noob post... I've gotten my hands pretty dirty in this area in the past, took a lot of time off, and pretty much forgot where I left off...so I'm starting over from scratch

If anyone even has experience setting up a webserver on a dynamic IP with a yahoo registered domain, and can give me a list of free software or services used to host a website from home, that would be a huge help!!

Thanks Again!!
