hi there i would like to know how to setup web host to get a site going? can anyone tell me whats need and the proper way to start? also whats need software wise TIA

just a small site with forums that i would like to host from home for grafx design.would just like a hand with software needed and a little direction would help out alot.i would just like to be able to host things like this myself on my own site that i play around with making in my spare time.http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=clip01ci9.swf
