Very Dumb Newbie Questions
Hi all: Forgive the newbieness of this question. I have just registered a domain name but haven't developed a website yet.
First, I would like to receive my domain name mail at Outlook. Can I do this without picking a hosting company? And is this the same as the company that host my website? So, do I have to decide that upfront? For now, I want to look more professional my receiving mail to my web address rather than just my ISP address. Also, is there very easy, for the neophyte, do it yourself web design avail that doesn't look amateurish? Or do you recommend I hire a web designer. If so, what should I look for to determine if they are good? Thanks ![]() :

Re: Very Dumb Newbie Questions
You can do it without web site hosting but it depends if where you bought the domain from allows it (best to ask them if your unsure). Normally what happens is you have to buy either an email or hosting package to get all the features.
You can have a different company for your web site hosting than what you use for your domain. As for web design it depends what your site will be used for. If its just a personnal thing then go for it, always nice to learn new things. If its for business then unless you have the time to learn how to do it well, its best to get someone who knows what they are doing. I'm a web designer so I would say look for me. But then i'm biased.

Re: Very Dumb Newbie Questions
I always try to support those who give time to the site so if you'd like to talk offline and see whether you can help me with design, I'm open to it.
What are 'all the features' you are referring to? I'm actually not sure I even understand the answer you gave me. See, I know so little that I can't even decipher the response

Re: Very Dumb Newbie Questions
Features: By this I mean, being able to send and recieve email from your domain. My domains on their own have free email forwarding and catch all email forwarding but this dosen't allow you to send from your domains address (only receive). I have to setup hosting with email boxes to be able to send mail. I think you will probably need to buy either a hosting or email package. If it turns out you do need hosting to get your email working then I can set something up for free if you decide to use me. ![]() I'll PM you with my contact info and we can talk further if you like. Sorry if i make it sound complicated. |
