email account changed
Hi guys.
I am running a website which has got a email account with squirrelmail. My client has sent an email saying that he could not log in to his email account and was asked to reset the password, as he did he managed to access a email account with those usernames and passwords but all his mail was deleted and reseted. I sent an email to the original address and accessed to his email account via cpanel and the email account was changed for something like: NN@phaeton.websitewelcome.com does anyone why it could have happened? what i presume is that someone hacked his email and changed everything. Help! thanks |

CPanel doesn't allow you to change an email account. You can only change the password and delete the account. Most hackers aren't going to do trivial stuff like this. They're usually either going to deface your website or make you think no one broke in and run some scripts on your server.
I would suggest restoring the account from a backup from the night before or the week before if you perform backups.
