Hello people at TechSupport!
lets assume i have a shared hosting with 1gig of space, what would be the best way to divide the available 1024mb for 60 individuals(15mb each and the remaining for general use)? Do i have to create sub-accounts through the cpanel or manually create folders in my directory or will i need wildcard hosting or i could try something else better? any suggestions welcomed thanks in advance! |

ok, make sure where ever you host this site allows subdomains. That will be easiest way to do it. A subdomain is something as follows:
http://bob.mysite.com the 'bob' is the sub domain and some hosting providers allow for unlimited sub domains. Then all you have to do is make sure you have an index, default, etc. page within this subdomain to load when it is typed in. Godaddy is a really good hosting service that allow subdomains.

on our main page i have provided a user login/register only for the students, so each would have a folder created(on the fly through php) together with a default index.html.
ie: http://www.mysite.com/username/index.html does that mean now i just have to MANUALLY create 60 subdomains and point them the above url? and one more thing when each user have their subdomain, meaning they can have ftp access right? thanks for your help! |

that way seems fine because then all they would have to do would be to enter the address followed by their name. Either way will work just fine.
FTP access will work for either, they just have to make sure they upload their files to their own area.
