CGI/Perl

I feel so silly asking this.

What's the difference between Perl and CGI? I have a Perl interpreter, but when I search for Perl examples, I get POST variables! Why is this!?

Perl is a scripting language. It can be used to run various operations in both Linux and Windows (similar to how DOS, and to a certain extent Windows have the old Batch files (.bat), but much more powerful). I believe Perl can be used on Mac OS X as well. CGI is specifically for web servers. However, CGI files can be Perl scripts or compiled C/C++ programs.
