Convoluted subject title, I know...
Here is the issue: I administrate a Windows 2000 domain with about 100 or so users and about 50 workstations. I am currently designing an intranet site that will include a number of useful tools. One of these tools is a Visual Basic script (VBS) that will perform a number of clean-up functions on the user's roaming profile (in essence, moving files from My Documents and the Desktop to a directory in their home folder). Aside from issues I am having writing the script (new to VBScript), I am not sure of the best way for this file to be accessed. The intranet site will be hosted with Microsoft IIS. Basically, the code does not execute properly when embedded in an HTML or ASP file, so I would prefer another solution. My initial thought was to create a share on the fileserver, giving users read/execute permission, and point the link to the VBS file stored there. However, using the file:// protocol seems to do nothing (click the link, nothing happens, script doesn't execute), and running it off the web server with the http:// protocol only asks the user to save the file, which I certainly don't want. This page will be accessed mostly through Internet Explorer, but some users use Mozilla Firefox. Security is only a minor concern here, as it is completely internal and most of the users are knowledgable only in the basics of computing. Simple file access control is plenty. Any suggestions as to how to get this script running, in turn making my life 100 times easier? Thanks in advance, --MDL |
