.htaccess & Frontpage extensions
I've been looking at making a webpage password protected and have been looking at what my webhost provides in the way of utilities etc.
One method is to use their password protection for directories, however when I click on the icon to set it up I get the message saying it cannot be done whilst Frontpage extensions are installed. The Frontpage extension section states Installing or uninstalling Frontpage Extensions will result in the loss of all ".htaccess" files in your web area. Any changes you have made to your ".htaccess" files will be lost. So, if I uninstall the extensions does this mean that the .htaccess files will be deleted? If so, do I have to write all new ones or will they be automatically reinstalled but without the Frontpage extension part? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Ian |

Re: .htaccess & Frontpage extensions
Hello Ian.
I think the best way to password protect the desired directory would be to manually edit your .htaccess file with a text editor (such as Notepad). For an easy password protection generator, check out this page at Dynamic Drive.
