NEW site, live 3 weeks looking for feedback

Hello all,

Looking back over the past few years I have lost count of how many DEEP holes the good people on Tech Support Forums have dug me out of...really amazing when I think about it.

I'm looking for feedback on the following site.

I should start off with the opinion that I'm really not into flashy sites just because they feel so cliche to me these days...so I can't really judge that for you, as that's just a personal preference.

One thing I will say is that you need a nice big product example on your front page (preferably engraved with your site name/logo). This would immediately capture the audience you're trying to target, and the engraving of your site logo gives the site credibility.

my thoughts include, do not use the search feature as the only way to navigate your site. Put a real menu on it.

Do not rely on flash.

some knives you sell may be illegal in some municipalities, you may want to identify them or post a warning notice on the front page about this.

Generally your front page is confusing. Says the same things too many times. Not easy to navigate.

the home button does not take you home. It goes to the catalog page.

the two click here buttons are too large and the how to one is not necessary since it is already on the banner. Use the space for a larger example. The small examples at the bottom gets lost. It is the top of the page people will look at first then they get lazy as they work their way down.

Do you really need that second welcome banner?

You may want to consider fixing it so when a product is clicked on, it opens a new window or tab instead of over the current window.

In your item descriptions - break it up using paragraphs. One large paragraph is hard to read.

Your registration pages are not secured not (not using https). Since it is personal info, you may want to make your customers feel their personal info is secured.

No privacy statement for the personal data submitted for registration

Overall view, if I were looking for a custom designed knife, I would most likely bypass your site.

Sorry, but the above are my honest opinions,

one more thing, I tried your pages in five different browsers, the pages I checked did not break - and that is very good.

A few things...
From all corners our Front Page has not gone over too well.
We are right now working on a new one that will include some of your input and much more.
Including larger example slide-show & a very short what we do video, etc.

Flash really looked like the best option given what we wanted the Design Utility to be. We are asking Flash to do a lot when saving the Design Utility images, etc. for production so there will be glich now & then depending on what else is going on at the same time on the user's machine.

Knives that are restricted show they are so on the Product Info page & checkout is not possible unless that item can ship to that state.

There is a legal statement in Terms of Use page.

What did the two of you (and anybody else out there) have as a user experience using the Design Wizard?

When the front pages are in place I will bump this post & ask for you to have another look.

Hello all,

I first asked you fine people to have a look at my new web site on July 1st.
I took your comments & site user / customer comments & decided to re-do several things including a totally new front page.
My plan was to have this up for a second review by the end of July.......as usual with computers it took longer than expected.

FRONT PAGE: I think this is much better done. Adding the little slide show of examples right there is exactly what was needed. Now when people go to the site, they instantly know what service/products you are providing.

NAVIGATION: You should have your top logo always link to the front page. Generally, there needs to be a better way to navigate the site and the search option should SUPPLEMENT the navigation, not be the only way to get around. Look how Amazon does their categories - I think that would work really well for your site.

SEARCH RESULTS PAGE: On the search page, I don't particularly like the banded background and the "Login" is off kilter. Also, when you do the search result rollover there is no way to click out of it unless you roll over the arrows icon. I think that when you roll over the PRODUCT picture, the rollover should activate as well as close when you click away from the window.

DESIGN WIZARD: Runs a little slow, but all in all it's a well-functioning system. I don't have time to try all the options, but the few I tried worked great.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: It's much better. I just think the navigation should be more user intuitive and then you'd be pretty much off and running. :)

I will tweak the logo link & come up w/ a better way to expand the thumbnails.
One question about the Wizard, were you using Firefox.
Users w/ Firefox are having issues.....drives me crazy.

Actually yes I was. I didn't notice anything abnormal. What issues are they running into?

Firefox issues....

Actually the problems started with a Flash update, see this link STRANGE browse to file issue, but with some new code that problem went away.

The site just never works best on FF.
Bad page loads requiring a re-fresh.
The Design Wizard often has function issues with FF or loss sometimes of a layer?
I could go on and on.
