Advise on my Next Project

Well i was planning on moving from VB6 to VB.Net. and i am thinking of making a program that will let me manage my DVD archive.

anyway what since i will be doing my program design in the near future for my undergrad degree this will serve as my training.

i want to learn managing Databases, should i go with SQL or learn MySQL? of course it is good to learn both but, w/c one is easier to learn first?

any site that is easy to understand tutorials for this?

Re: Advise on my Next Project

MySQL is an SQL server. Did you mean Microsoft SQL Server? SQL is not a database system. SQL is Server Query Language, the language in which commands to the server databases are constructed.

MySQL is free open-source software. You can get a Windows binary (executable) here: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/.
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is more pricey. You can get a free crippled SQL Server [Express Edition] here: http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/default.aspx .

For learning SQL: http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp

Re: Advise on my Next Project

Yes, you can. http://www.phpriot.com/articles/images-in-mysql explains the different ways this can be done, and which one is best.
