Re: any good free hosts?
The only problem with a free host is that hosts often have hundreds of clients all loaded onto a single server at the same time, so all the sites and requests make your end site very slow.
But jsut search google for Free Cpanel host and it will show you a lot of results. |

Re: any good free hosts?
I use my Bravehost for idea testing to make sure everything works out in a "real" Internet environment. For really complex sites, localhost does not give enough of a live test to get useful data about possible weak points.
I tried Freewebs, and it kept insisting I use a webpage creator that didn't do anything I wanted and spewed out garbage HTML/XHTML hybrid code.

Re: any good free hosts?
I use Bravenet's free sub-domain and free hosting for most of my personal online work. They DO have ads, but they refuse to accept ads for objectionable products/services, or that contain objectionable content.
True, they don't handle php or allow outside scripts, but they do have a lot of free services available for you to use. It gives you a chance to try out a service for free to see if it will be useful. If it is, but the limits on the free version are too restricting, you will have a good idea what to shop for. Bravenet has a good site creator, but also allows ftp uploads, so you're not restricted to a limited site format. I've also had very good, timely response to the few help requests I've made. It is important to first check their FAQ, then carefully word your question / request, but this is true of support for most hosts, whether free or paid. Bravenet's freehost loading time is reasonable as long as you don't have a huge amount of images or other "bloat" in your webpage. when I started using Bravenet, many years ago (before they offered top level domain names), there were occasional "Cannot connect" and slow load problems, but they're now able to expand as they grow. Back then they were still struggling along on their shoestring. Finally, before you do anything, READ CARSEY'S ARTICLE. With the exception of personal webspace from an ISP, I have not yet seen an ad-free web host that does not charge something available to the public. The only "free" webhosting without ads I have seen is some limited server space provided by an ISP to a non-profit organization. If you want a very low cost ad-free host, Dot5hosting is about the least expensive if you pay a year or two in advance.
