How do I create a RSS feed?
I have a modest political website, and in order to boost traffic I would like to create a podcast. Instead of using a 3rd party to do (due to their annoying self advertisements) I would like to do it myself. It seems to me all that I need to do is create a RSS Feed on its own page in my website, and podcast friendly programs will just pull it from there (Zune Marketplace, iTunes, ext.)
Any person or place that could help? My search has been fruitless. Oh, and my budget is "nada to a dollar a year" aka nada. |

Re: How do I create a RSS feed?
looks like the third party software (your rss feeder creater) has the ability to upload your published rss feed directly to your site, its asking for the ftp details in order to upload the file directly onto your website.
if you are hosting your site, with a third party, they provide you with ftp details in order for you to upload you files directly onto you webserver. If you host the site locally I.e its on your machine, you can ignore it publish the file locally, then copy it to your relvent directory. |

Re: How do I create a RSS feed?
sorry my last reply might not have made a lot of sense,
Lets start with FTP(filel transfer protocol) some people who develop website, host the sites on a third part webserver e.g fasthost, hotchilli etc etc, often a big servers with lots of bandwidth to cope with traffic demands often connected to the interent with high speed lines. these servers are often not local to the users own network, so in order to publish the site onto the thirdparty webserver they transmit the finished site via ftp there are neumours ftp sofwares out there. so starting from the top FTP server addres = would be the address of the ftp third party server, Port = the default port is 21 for FTP but the third party could insist on using a different one login = would be your username for you ftp account password = would be password reomte dir = the remote directory in wich the rss would be placed remote file name = what you want to call your published rss file |
