Problems with Site in Vista
Hello, all. I'm new to the board, and came for a very simple reason -- I need help.
I'm a graphic and web designer, working on a Mac (OS 10.4), and using DreamWeaver MX 2004 (before anyone asks, I do NOT know code; I'm strictly a graphics person). I designed a site using CSS which works FINE on my Mac (in Safari, Firefox and IE), and looks FINE when viewed on a Windows XP machine. However, I'm being told by my client that it does NOT look right when viewed in IE on a PC running Vista; apparently, the layers are all re-sizing, making the background color fill about half the screen. Since I'm not on Vista, have no way to view the site in Vista, and the site looks fine on my computer, not only do I not really know what's wrong, but I have no clue how to fix it. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before? At this point, I don't even know enough to say if the problem is really with the site, or perhaps just with the settings on my client's computer! Is there any way to "lock down" the size and positioning of the different layers in DreamWeaver? ANY help at this point would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance, everybody. I hope you're all having a better Saturday night than I am! - Matt |

Re: Problems with Site in Vista
LOL, continuing the problem, they won't let me post the site until it's fixed... and I'm not even sure there's a problem yet! If I can convince them to let me post it tomorrow, I'll post the link here ASAP.
Thanks for trying to help, - Matt |

Re: Problems with Site in Vista
My client now recognizes that the problems are restricted to Vista computers and has let me post the site. The URL is: www.kidzkastleri.com
Thanks so much in advance to anyone who takes the time to try to lend a hand on this, - Matt |

Hi mbechtel,
Looked at the site on my vista laptop in both ie and ff. Both browsers are rendering the site the same. The only thing I can think of when your talking about the background color taking up half the page is if the resolution on the clients vista machine is set pretty high making a large portion of the site on the right side orange. Perhaps a screen shot of what the site should look like so we can compare the design on vista.

Re: Problems with Site in Vista
mbechtel: First off, your site is great - I really like it (great job). I don't see the problem you're talking about, myself. It looks and behaves the same in both XP-IE and Vista-IE - at least for me.
Aharper: I don't think this is a "vista" problem, but rather, your screen resolution is just different on one of those computers and you're using width percentages rather than defined pixels (ie "width=90%" rather than "width=600"). When you view the site in a resolution that is larger, it's going to expand. In general, I really don't know that IE in Vista is much different than IE in XP ... at least, to the point where sites are messed up in one but not the other. I would never say never on that though :P
