Of Domains and Maskings

[Yes, I know nothing. Hurrah!]

"Domain/URL masking" basically masks the entire URL. Question: is it possible to just mask the domain name? Like, instead of stuff.com/what --> moar.com, having stuff.com/what --> moar.com/what. People have already told me you can't do it if the masking is achieved via iframes, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere about more than one method...

I'm not even sure if it's of much use asking this question... but in any case, curiosity will be satisfied and gratitude owed upon its answering.

What I mean is, is it possible to mask just the domain part of the URL instead of the entire URL?
