Transfering A Website

Whats Up Guys,

Recently my friends boss asked me if I could maintain his website for him since the guy that made it before is no longer doing it. All the files were left with the guys that were hosting the page. I knew that they would have all the files I would need, so I asked them to send me all the information they had. Thing is I never done this before and dont really know what I am looking at. Once I get these files into dreamweaver I'll be ok. But how do I get to that point? Heres what he sent me:

-Control Panel
user and Pass
-FTP
user and pass
-WebMail Administration
user and pass
-WebMail Access

Hi there... "Set up a new Site" in Dreamweaver, using the FTP details you have been provided - More info Here

once this is setup, you can "GET" the files from the remote server, and store them onto your Hard disk.

Hope this helps.

Re: Transfering A Website

So if I did this through dreamweaver, would I still need to download an ftp client?

Re: Transfering A Website

You can have Dreamweaver download/upload files - but I've never set mine up to do this. I use a standalone FTP client just because I like it. FileZilla is my personal favorite (a link is in my sig below). If you want to have Dreamweaver do them you do NOT need a standalone FTP program - Dreamweaver has an FTP built in.

Do you know what host your boss is going through? Control Panel is just cPanel which you really should take some time to learn - it's pretty simple stuff.

Depending on the host, you should be able to go to "http://www.yourURL.com/cpanel" and it'll go straight to it. Put in your username/password and you're in. TONS of useful things in this - from setting up FTP users to a web file manager. The web mail access is also in here.
