Creating Links
OK, I did something really really dumb. On my website you can click on my Flash buttons and move around my site, but you cant click Home to get back to my home page. Relatively speaking how hard is this to fix? Oh, I'm using Dreamweaver. Thanks for any assistance or advice.

Re: Creating Links
That all depends on what you mean, where is the home button? within the flash? and what are you doing to try and make it a link/what did you do to try and make it a link?

Allow me to explain. On my home page I can click on the flash button and each page opens up to a window without the buttons appearing on the side. You have to close out of the page go back to the home page and click another button. Yesterday my flash buttons appeared on all my pages. I could move around click to the others I just could click home to get back to homepage. I swear ........... saved my all my links to the mainframe.

Re: Creating Links
Okay you said they're flash buttons, i assume you made them in the obvious way:
1) create the graphic button in flash 2) add the actionscript "getURL("url.html"); ? is that correct? give me the actionscript you added to your flash and the directory structure and i can probably help.... if you did not create the buttons like i suggested then explain how you made them or send me the file and i can help you out... if the other links work it should function the same. If you give us more info we can probably have it fixed =] Jamey |

Re: Creating Links
Well Jamie I really missed up I no longer have a home page my other pages, button and flash video are there but I dont no longer have a Main Home Page. If I could email my pages I would but I'm a novice at University and I'm not sure I could send via PM.
yea it did one and two. I went to edit click on the page save it to mainframe apply and clicked did each one like so. Like I said I'm now missing a home page if I could create another using the flash buttons and contact the other pages I would I already, but I scared I gonna miss it up even more. Re: Creating Links
hmm, What is the website for? it is against forum rules to directly aid anyone in education (e.g. if this is to do with work which is to be assessed by someone etc.) but if you are not in breach of forum rules then zip up your site and attach it to your next post, i will take a look at it and suggest a possible fix, i'm sure its fixeable though.

Re: Creating Links
Haha, i know, i bought the Personal Learning Edition of Studio 8 and it cost me £80.
Okay, well if you compress your website into a zip file (from wherever it's stored on your computer etc.) and attach it to a post then i'll take a look, find a fix and give you the details and files i needed to modify... it sounds like a simple problem to fix it's just hard to give you the fix directly over here without having looked at the site or the structure etc. |

Re: Creating Links
Glad you got it sorted,
are you writing the code or using dreamweaver's designing tools? Because you could be doing this from notepad (or an alternative text editor[my fave is notepad++]) writing the HTML, CSS and javascript for your site from scratch, there are some great tutorials around (such as w3schools.com[very easy to understand]) and you'd be saving $300 and designing and developing sites in a more professional way. (p.s. if i didn't mention it would be free) Anyway glad you got it sorted, Jamey |

Re: Creating Links
Whenever you have a question it would be REALLY good to post a link to your site so we can see firsthand what is going wrong. LOL I think half of this thread is us trying to figure out what you're seeing :P
Glad you got it figured out BTW.

Re: Creating Links
haha if you have the time to learn basic HTML you'll realise that Dreamweavers design tools don't give you the same amount of control over a webpage as writing the code directly, (i learned from code and tried out dreamweaver later on) i definately prefer writing web-pages rather than using a WYSIWYG editor.
If you have the time then i'd really suggest looking at w3schools.com even just learning basic HTML can help your designing skills because you can understand whats going on in your code. Yes, the free part of it is nice isn't it. ![]() Cheers, Jamey |

Re: Creating Links
Writing HTML by hand in a production environment isn't feasible though. It's a really good idea to learn HTML so you can edit your code easily - but when you have a bunch of things to do and not much time to do it, Dreamweaver does a pretty bang-up job.
I should also note that it's good to learn HTML so you can open the doors to more dynamic languages like PHP. :)
