Toolbox of Examples
I am looking to start doing some website design for people , and I would like to have a bunch of examples available at my use in case they ask for them on their site. I am asking if some of you could provide a list of things that I should have in my toolbox of examples, what you would want if you were having a website built for you. I am not asking for examples, just ideas.

Re: Toolbox of Examples
Well, Id want to see a clean stylish layout which would be my main priority. Then I would probably start to ask what what type of languages you could code in for a site and how well you were at them.
Id probably then start to ask what features you would think would be best for my site, such as what features you would recommend for the type of site I was wanting. |

Re: Toolbox of Examples
If you have already created websites for other folk/companies put them in a 'Portfolio' directory on your laptop so that you can show off your work to prospective clients.
However fron the structure and nature of the question I am assuming that you haven't designed/created websites before. In that case, I strongly suggest that you get to college and get some deeper knowledge & qualifications and learn the craft first. Other than that, you have the biggest repositary of websites in the world - its called 'Internet'.... Dont plagerise but observe and get experience of what a nice website looks like. Then sit down with a scratch pad and draft out one or two Demo sites that you can base on your own impressions of what makes a good website.

Re: Toolbox of Examples
You really need to create a bunch of templates to use as examples of your work. Also you will need to show links to sites you have already created. You do not what to show examples of other web designers work.
Finally If you are just starting out, then the most important thing you will need is a contract. Do not do any sites without a contract - even free ones.

Re: Toolbox of Examples
Thanks for the recodmendations guys, me suggesting what they should have on their web site is a good idea. With regards towards going to college and past experience, it is sort of complicated how I am doing this so don't really ask, and contracts would not be necesary.

Re: Toolbox of Examples
true I don't know your situation but you may really need to consider contracts. I learned the hard way when I did a site free for a non profit organization that I belonged to. The problem is when it comes to who owns the sites design and content and who is responsible for keeping it updated and changes. It almost turned into a court case.

Re: Toolbox of Examples
You should have the conditions ready if they decide you are fit to make them a site. It would be best to make them sign them saying you were creating the code and the code only, and any content and updates are left to the business owner.
You give them 1 copy to sign and keep and they also sign your copy so you are covered if they try to take it legally. |
