Re: meta tag and search engine

The other search engine bots probably have yet to get around to your site. They don't check your site every day.

First off, since you're an education resource, "will practicing" should be "while practicing"

Just a typo, but stuff like that in your meta-tag or mission statement could easily cause prospective visitors to pass your site by.

There should be a spot in the header of your main page code for the meta tag. Different web-editors handle this differently, so I can't tell you how to edit it without knowing what web-editor you use.

Finally, search engine web-bots don't update as rapidly as people think. It might take a week or two for your revised meta-tag to show up. If it's important, and you have the resources, there are services that will submit your site to search engines for a fee.

By the way, don't neglect keywords. They can be just as important as your meta-tag for searching.

Re: meta tag and search engine

I wouldn't bother paying people to add the site for a fee when you can add it yourself:

Google - AOL & Netscape go through Google too

MSN Search

Yahoo! Search

WebCrawler

Re: meta tag and search engine

I don't think you're understanding what we're saying...

When you update your site, there isn't a web God somewhere who knows what you did and instantly makes sure everybody around the internet knows it. What actually happens is each search engine has "spiders" (also called crawlers, bots, etc) that automatically run around the web and dig up information on your website. There are millions and millions of web sites out there - so they're not going to check in on your site every day. Depending on the search engine, some may check once a week, some may check once a month, sometimes more. That's why I gave you the links to notify them that your site has been updated. From there, they will put you on a list of sites to be checked out. Now, here again, they may not get to you that day or the next day or even that week - but chances are good they will get to you regardless.

Unless you own a site that is highly relevant and popular, don't expect to get Grade A treatment from search engines. If you're a new web site, are not popular (meaning not many sites link to you - especially what they would figure as relevant - like MSN.com), or do not update your site with fresh content regularly...chances are good that you'll drop down on the regular crawl list. You have to notify the search engines (if you want them to get to you a bit faster) and WAIT.

Does that help clarify?
