Hi. I'm a total newbie when it comes to web development and similar things.. However i've ran across some WYSIWYG programs online, so i can't decide what's good and what's bad :) ... I would like a realtively easy software for a newbie (although i learn quite fast, so not exactly some worthless soft), that can create web sites... So i can create html effects and stuff like that.. But i would like to put some videos and slide shows onto my web page firstly...so i'd need a piece of software that can do that... So if anyone had expirience with such soft..please help me out.. Price range - up to 200-300$... And i would also like a good and reliable host, that costs not more than 10$ a month...I need only about 100Mb storage...Thanks!

Re: I need help with several issues...
You can get good reliable hosts with about 50-100mb for free on the internet.
It depends how you like to design your pages. Personally I use Dreamweaver, but there is nothing wrong with programs such as notepad or frontpage to create your page. |

Re: I need help with several issues...
If you're going to be putting videos and slide shows up - are you sure you only need 100 MB of storage? Even if that's a little over what you need right now ... you probably need room to grow.
I personally go through HostGator and pay $9.95/month for their Baby plan - which is all you'll ever need. http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml As far as editors, there are a few good choices. Nvu is a good free one, there is Mozilla Composer in Mozilla's SeaMonkey (formerly Mozilla Suite), and there are other ones out there. If you're looking within the $200-300, I would recommend Dreamweaver 8. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec It's the previous version - Dreamweaver CS3 has since come out (after Adobe bought the rights to Macromedia products) but CS3 is, at it's cheapest, like $350. I haven't upgraded myself because I love Dreamweaver 8 so much - I haven't seen a good reason to justify the upgrade. Personally, I don't like Frontpage...but Microsoft has since developed Expression Web to replace Frontpage, which apparently was largely built from scratch. If you just want to be basic, rather than Notepad, try Notepad++ which is free and, as the name suggests, is like notepad with lots of upgrades: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm |

Re: I need help with several issues...
Wow- People actually write webpages in notepad?
![]() I have only ever used Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver CS3 (Only had this 2 weeks), and I always use it in "Design" mode 90% of the time. It makes things a whole lot easier for me since I'm only a novice. I don't really see much difference in CS3 to D/W 8 really, but that's because I've chosen not to. I know what I know, and I have enough to learn at the moment, rather than learning new things. My opinion; Dreamweaver 8 is a good choice. As for hosting, if you want a good, reliable hosting plan, checkout www.pagematic.com. Ive been using them for about 3 years now and NEVER had any problems with them. They do various sizes of packages, and to give you an example- I'm paying $24.99 a month for 5GB, which includes CpanelX which helped me a lot when starting out as it has various things you can install at the click of a button IGo to their homepage and click the "fantastico" link; you will see what I mean), and with very little knowledge of web design. I have been offered cheaper hosting, but nobody has been able to offer me CpanelX with it, so I've stayed with these guys. No regrets on my end. Good luck with your venture. :) Last edited by ralen; 09-11-2007 at 06:34 PM. |

Can you please give me a link to where you get your hosting from, or even PM it to me please. I have a new website that I am going to need a LARGE hosting account soon- Around 500GB actually as it's going to have files to download for my resellers, any ideas where to go for this? I need unlimited bandwidth/ or a decent amount, and a good, reliable, server with decent D/L speeds. Thanks |

May I add, if you need a simple to use flash animation program, try Aligator Flash Designer. It used to be called Selteco Flash Designer. I cannot work Macromedia Flash 8, so I use Aligator which is a basic, but ok for straightforward animations. Looking forward to seeing some of your work in the future.
