Re: Newbie to Web Design & Need Software Advice
@ Happysapper: to design your webpages you can use the Open Source (OS) version of Dreamweaver: Nvu. To edit pictures you can use GIMP, the OS of Photoshop. This should get you started!

Re: Newbie to Web Design & Need Software Advice
My personal favorite is Dreamweaver. I've been using the MX suite for awhile, but the new Dreamweaver that was aquired by Adobe is pretty decent, too.
I would recommend that you also get a back up design program to check your work. I use a much more different program like 1stpage. Also, make sure your pages work on both IE and Firefox (if you're using a pc like most people) and Safari on Macs (or whatever's current), but that shouldn't be a problem. If you want site ideas, look around the net. Personally, I like graphic intense pages that are eye appealing, or sometimes conservative in nature. I would recommend that you look around the net at personal pages and see what suits you best. And if you want to know what to avoid, go to AOL Hometown or Geocities. YUCK. |
