http://www.checkermate.com/Movies_1.htm
I can't figure this out. IE used to play the movies, but now it won't. I'm hoping this is the correct forum to ask this q? Thank you in advance! |

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
I cleared my cache. No luck. I uninstalled IE 7 and reinstalled. No luck. My Firefox opens the movies. My Opera opens the movies. All my friend's IE 7's open the movies, but my IE 7 won't open the movies. This is freaky.
What in gatesworld could possibly be going on? Just had a thought. Maybe it's my ZoneAlarm? |

I'll give you instructions later on tonight. I think I know what it is, but I'm on a unix-only computer right now.

Open Internet Explorer.
Go to Tools -> Internet Options... -> Click the "Advanced" tab -> Scroll down to the "Multimedia" section -> Make sure play videos and sounds are both checked Restart internet explorer and test your new settings using this test.

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
The checkmarks are in the right places under the 'advanced' tab.
I did the vdat test and it worked fine. I am amazed by this one. I just don't see how it won't work again with a reinstall of IE. It used to play the videos. Do the movies play on your IE's? |

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
I think it has to do with IE's stupid security procedures. Microsoft probably sees movies as a security loophole when in reality, all you want to do is fulfill your entertainment needs.
![]() So does it work?

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
Nope, my IE still won't play the movies. Everyone else's IE plays them fine. I even deleted the movies from the server, made a new page and resent them but it didn't make a difference.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled IE, uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime, turned off the AVG and ZoneAlarm. We're stumped. This might be the first time we've ever been unable to resolve a problem. Some things have taken days to figure out but we eventually figured them out. I suppose I could try a past restore point but the computer's running really well now and I hesitate to change anything. |

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
Can you explain in detail what happens when you try to view the movies?

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
Here is a jpeg of the page. I just found out that I can right click and 'save target as' and IE downloads the movie and it will play. It used to just play the movie when I clicked on it on the webpage. Now it shows a yellow exclamation point lower left and when I click on the exclamation point the message says "object expected."
My Firefox and Opera browsers and my friend's IE's just open the movies right up without a problem. Mine used to, perhaps before I installed IE 7, but my friend's are using IE 7 and the movies play on their computers. Thank you for your help. |

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
It has to be a problem with the quicktime plugin. I'm going to do some research.

Re: Mozilla plays my movies, IE won't.
I just checked Quicktime preferences and the box was unchecked that said 'play movies automatically' and I thought that was it. I thought the problem was solved but nope. However, IE acted differently when I clicked on the movie. It said 'downloading movie' but when it was done the movie didn't play and the exclamation point was back. : (
Another thing different now is that Quicktime will open the movie url. Yesterday it wouldn't. It said 'invalid url' yesterday. Since then I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime. So it seems we're heading in the right direction but now we're stopped again. I appreciate your help. |
