Creating a Web Page

I recently started a new business to help others transitioning back into society. I think I have a URL(?) name which I could use but don't know the first thing about how to do this. In time, I would add the graphics, all rest of necessary info but for now I need to know if I can use project restart.info ?

Second, are there folks out there who can guide me through the web design process?

Thanks. Mark

EEK! Re: Creating a Web Page

Mark, so you're asking for the whole enchilada, eh?
First, if you do not have a registered URL or domain name (such as mark.com), you must register it and pay say $20/year to maintain it so that no one else can use that name.
Then you have to pay a server (ISP) to host your website on their server, say $50+/year.
Then you have to create all your web pages and test them before you upload them to the server (ISP).
Then they will appear on the net, when someone enters your site's URL.
I do it all the time for different companies and individuals.
It's a lot of work, the hardest being the creation of the webpages as some people are very picky in what they want (they want your soul).

I would create the whole website using .html first, then choose a website name, then find an ISP to host it.
Good luck.

Re: Creating a Web Page

DeadToad gave you a pretty accurate rundown. However, you can get a domain name (like yourcompanyname.com) for much less than $20/yr. You need a host to put your files on. The domain name makes those files viewable at an easy to remember url.

To help you get a jump start, check out http://www.freelayouts.com. It is a website that has free pre-made websites available for download. They are compressed into .ZIP files that you can download and copy to your computer.

You will also need a visual HTML (the coding language that websites are displayed with) editor. These are called WYSIWYG programs. A good, free WYSIWYG program is Nvu. Click the Nvu link in under my design team banner or more info and a download.

When creating your own website, usually images that you create or you pay to create a placed on your website. "Borrowing" another site's image may breach copyright laws.

Re: Creating a Web Page

@ Mark Verba: Before making any website, it is perhaps an idea to make layout of the website (how many pages, what will be shown/written/is already written) and what the purpose of the website is. Only information? With a forum? With a guestbook? Based on this, you can decide how you want a webpage to look like.

How a website looks like is important, but the content even more. Once the latter is oke, the rest is can be done with help relatively easy.

This may seem a bit overdone, but will save you lot's of time in the future.
